[InfoWorld] Malicious microprocessor opens new doors for attack

For years, hackers have focused on finding bugs in computer software that give them unauthorized access to computer systems, but now there's another way to break in: Hack the microprocessor.

On Tuesday, researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign demonstrated how they altered a computer chip to grant attackers backdoor access to a computer. It would take a lot of work to make this attack succeed in the real world, but it would be virtually undetectable.
Souce Article

This news came out last week and I didn't see it around the forums here.
I think this is VERY interesting. I would have never though of a CPU being used as a backdoor by exploiting the logic gates on a processor.

I was confused at first....
I wondered "This would go in hardware.... but... no wait... yah!"

I don't feel like providing a link, but, yes, this is a repost.

Still interesting though.

Why do you think the US military primarily(only?) uses processors from IBM in their war machines. Can't risk using CPUs from overseas.

What kills me is that they tell everyone one about it. Now that everyone knows it can be exploited at a staggering rate. I mean if they kept it secret then the chances of it happening would be minimal.
