does anyone know how to enable "force constant performance level"

i read the help files and it says you have to make and entry in the "registry" tab. the thing is i have no idea how to do that lol.

the second thought is this: at 40% fan speed my OC'd 8600GT never goes above 75 degrees. is it safe to disable throttling? (i believe throttling lowers clock speeds to avoid burning up when the chip gets dangerously hot)

thanks in advance.

ah sorry - found out how to make that registry entry (and sorry for not hitting edit - couldn't see button b/coz i wasn't logged in)

2nd question still stands though:

max temp under load 75 degrees, 8600GT OC'd, 40% fan speed.

IS IT SAFE TO DISABLE THROTTLING?

thanks.

ok thanks for the reply - i'm not saying your wrong but surely having throttling disabled will only make a temperature difference when it (the GFX card driver?) decides the GPU is running too hot. I guess the thing to do (apart from ask on the rivatuner forums - but i am really getting fed up with having to fill in a page of personal details before being allowed to do anything on the internet these days - i mean all i want to do is ask a question...) is to enable this "force constant performance" which disables throttling and keep a close eye on temps for a few days?

anyone got any better ideas/further comments?

disable the throttling wack the fan to 100% when gaming ......done

if the card barely gets over 75c with the fan @ 40% in theory no throttle & a 100% fan should be about the same....

as for altering the registry to force constant performance .....cant help soz !!
i personally have never had to worry about anything in RT other than fan & clocks ....but thats just me....

thanks for the link to the tutorial - if i can be bopthered i'll set up a load of custom fan profiles to give me more cooling at lower temperatures.

i'm still not too convinced about disabling throttling as a side effect... the logic is there (never goes above 75 degrees even at ONLY 40% fan speed) but what if i cant undo the change and re-enable throttling.

although i would be quite excited if i wrecked an 8600GT and "had to buy an 8800GT" as a replacement... i would rather not set my PC alight whilst playing cod4...

i'll try and get fan profiles working then have another think RE throttling.

cheers for all the comments, and WTH + rep for that tutorial - much easier to follow than teh rivatuner "readme" files
