X-fi E/M is Xtremely Bad for Music - Page 2

Maybe it's broken and your card is getting uneven voltage, thus raising your volume and lowering it...although I have no idea if that's true at all...just a guess

Same problem .......

when i was about to close my case up again i did notice that this capacitor was bent to the side a little but i don't think that capacitor has anything to do with basic playback so i won't point my finger at it. unless someone knows the intricasies of the pcb layout
That won't cause any issues as long as the leads (wire connectors) are in good condition. Also, as long as the capacitor isn't touching anything, you'll be fine. You're actually really lucky that you only have one bent capacitor lol, as mine probably has half of them slightly to noticeably bent

Use Foobar2000 with Kernel Streaming, using iTunes is a travesty with the X-Fi. Only media players with proper support for ASIO or Kernel Streaming will fully unlock the ability of your card.

Not exactly, the difference between DS and KS/ASIO is certainly there, but it's subtle, and not really all that noticeable without a good set of headphones/speakers.

Sync, glad to hear you found out the problem, and that it wasn't the card. =D

I never knew sound cards automatically change volumes LOL ,

I say something is wrong, u got it in good condition but something freaky is going on with your rig. I say make sure its seated right like the other guy said, and the jacks are plugged in all the way; push it in. Now do what fellas said and disable any type of sound enhancment settings.

Your EAX will still work in games. GL,,
