I tried this and 174.85 yesterday.
Both dropped performance significantly on 3Dmark06 (300-400 points!) when compared to 169.44
Some threads have suggested that the added ability to change the max pre rendered frames in the 3D settings in the CP allow higher performance in Crysis, but the downside is my stystem is not stable at my OC speeds...

are these drivers also optimized for 8 series cards instead of 9 series? Also do these drivers show a gain in single card systems or sli systems?

nVIDIA pretty much dropped the driver support for 8-series cards, sadly.

This way they can force us buying crappy 9-series cards.

I had problems w/ SLI in XP w/ these drivers. Others are having similar issues. Seems to work fine in Vista tho.

hmm that seems really inappropriate for your system as being the only difference to mine is the cpu but the speeds are the same, i guess my initially higher FSB?

on the subject: i notice a huge drop in FPS with any 17x driver. had to stick with using 169.23 i believe, or whatever came with this card.

did anyone notice any visual improvements??

me too!! I lost 2k points on my SM2.0 score 3dmark06 with the 174.74 betas and there was a noticeable loss of image quality. I rolled back to 169.44 and my eyes stopped bleeding!! lol
