Random crashes, no blue screen - Page 2

So...I opened up my case and used some compressed air to clear up some dust that was on anything. I also moved my RAM to the next available slots and on my 20 minutes of playing WoW just now, I managed to not crash. This could all simply be luck, but maybe I had a bad RAM slot? Maybe the dust wasn't allowing enough air flow? I don't know...

When I was checking BIOS all yesterday I'm pretty sure all the temperature ranges were pretty normal too, or at least nothing was close to the red zones.

Also, about my hard drive possibly crapping, I ran checkdisks (or whatever it's called) earlier today before making the original post, so I don't think that is the problem. I do, however, have an older hard drive that I used to use and it's just sitting in the case--plugged in, with no files even being used/stored on it. Could this be interfering with power consumption or anything, and should I just unplug it? I got my 500 GB hard drive 3 months ago, I'd be shocked if it were the cause.

That's not too bad.

I ran a similar program on my moms PC a while back and it came up with a couple THOUSAND problems.

Three year old XP install + 0 maintenance = not good. It's amazing it runs as smooth as it does.

On topic - Well I hope switching the RAM over to another slot solves the lock up problem. Only time will tell.

Random crashes are almost always a failing PSU.

I had random crashes on my old AMD rig, until it finally wouldn't post. Replaced the surge protector and the motherboard and got another 3 months out of it, until it finally took my motherboard out again, this time killing the RAM too (rev 1.3 Corsair XMS2 w/ D9GMH IC's ). You might want to consider replacing the PSU, your system doesn't need much power anyways. A quality 400-450W is more than enough. I just built an overclocked Q6600, 8800GTS 512MB, 4GB RAM, etc with a Corsair VX450W and it's running just fine, 5 year warranty on the Corsair VX series too. $70 + free shipping.

Heh...hell if I know. All I can say is what I see in my properties and what the box said. It might be the hyper-threading or something that makes it mimic 4 cpus, as I've been told.

So anyways, last night I played the game a bit longer -- like 3 hours straight without interrupts. If this were a couple days ago, I wouldn't have made it more than 10 minutes. The only things I changed from when it was crashing consistently to hopefully being gone for good are:

1) Swapping RAM slots
2) Airing out dust very thoroughly
3) Registry cleaner

Those are all I can think of, so I guess that might be all I did to get to where I am. I'm going to keep you guys posted to see what happens in the future...

Room definitely isn't too hot, and the temperature readings seem to be pretty normal. 100 F in the case isn't too bad, right? My friend tells me his system used to run at 130 F all the time. Do overheating restarts skip the BSoD?

an overheating wont necessarily cause a BSOD it will i either freeze or just restart, and no 38C or 100F isnt that high at all, is when you playa game or do something stressful that it crashes or is it completely random?
