Gimme some F.E.A.R. Combat tips

Thread Starter
Last night while I was procrastinating doing some work I installed F.E.A.R. Combat and stepped into a game for just a few minutes. As someone who has played a lot of CS and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory it felt WAY different than what I'm used to. I'm sure if I play it more I'll get more accustomed to the feel of it but until then does anyone have any good basic tips for successful play? I'm usually pretty comfortable in FPSs...I don't know why this one feels different. Some dude was running around unarmed karate-kicking all of us n00bs who were armed with shotguns and SMGs...I felt pretty pathetic.

EDIT: Tips that are specific to this game such as your favorite gun, general map things, particularly effective moves (example - the mouse 2 knife in CS 1.6 inflicts a lot more damage - that kind of thing), your favorite servers, etc..

Get a better multiplayer game. In all honesty I don't think FEAR should've been multiplayer. I don't enjoy it all and there are better FPS games for deathmatch. (Quake 4, UT2004) Or if you want a TOTAL Mind F*** Go grab "Hidden: Source Beta" for Half-Life 2. Thats a fun one.

FEAR muliplayer can be pretty fun on control or CTF. The way they were using unarmed on you is you can holster your weapon by hitting H i think then you run much faster and can jump + attack for a flying kick or just punch. Best defense for this is the shotgun. I have been in a server recently where people were trying that stuff and a couple of us switched to shotgun, you should have seen the chat spam about them hating the shotguns lol. You can sort of aim by hitting shift, almost like iron sites and gives you better aim. All the guns are pretty good but the assault rifle is a beast.

Learn how to do melee moves. Melee moves will let you avoid shots and kill the shooter.

As for FEAR though i never really liked the MP... A lot better games for multiplayer

Going off of the melee moves part, you need to learn how to use jump effectively. It's a lot harder to hit someone who's jumping around. Also, try not to run directly at anyone (this is more of a general FPS tip). I've found that playing a ton and with just one or two weapons only (shotgun and dual pistols for me) gets you wicked good at the weapons wicked fast. The pistols are extemely effective even against the assault rifle, in the right hands.

Never stop moving.

Circle strafe around those jumper.

I believe some servers have melee damage turned down. It is quite ridiculous that a single kick can kill you...

True that!! I was like "What the heck?! Dude just kicked me and I'm dead!" Granted this was like after midnight and I'd been grading papers for 4 hours or so...not exactly on top of my game.

I tend to use either the SMG or Dual pistols. Find they are more suited to the run and gun style of the MP game.

My best tip is when your about to die, throw a grenade. 9 times out of 10 you will get your killer(s)
