Big Typhoon - how tight?

Thread Starter
Somewhat of a naïve question, but how tight should a Big Typhoon be on the motherboard? I've had mine for quite a while now with good results, but every time I have a reason to reseat it, I can never decide on how tight to screw the screws and just guess.

How much clearance should there be from the PCB of the motherboard to metal bracket?

How tight?

As tight as my package in a five year olds as5.

But seriously, it should be pretty tight to ensure maximum tightness

Holy crap, that is so not right!

I do have the HSF tighter than a nun's a**hole (LOL) regularly, but I know that if it's too tight it can actually warp the PCB and cause big problems. This HSF screws on in such a way that it's difficult to judge if it's tight enough.

Put it on tight but not too tight. I think I cracked my old evga 680i like this and caused my voltage regulators to overheat and boil over.....from overtightening my BT down.

tight enough to not crack i say. use force, but not too much to tighten the screws.

the BT really is a PITA to install.

Yes it is. But all humongous coolers are from what I hear.

Well, let's hope I don't crack it. I haven't so far, but I'm installing a new CPU soon, so it will be a nerve wracking experience.

For mine, there's usually about a millimeter of the screw sticking out above the nut, the wider brass ones I mean. There's usually just under half an inch for mine between the bracket and motherboard.
