PS2 Backwards compatability help

Ok so this is what im trying to do. I just orderd the legend of dragoon brand new off ebay. It came in the mail in a sealed case just like new.

So I put it in my PS2 slim line to play it and what do you know? It wont save to PS1 mem cards. I had one ps2 card in slot 1 and one PS1 card in slot 2. Then I took the PS2 card out and the PS1 card in slot 1 and it still wont work.

So then I get my other PS1 mem card and put it in slot 2 and the other in slot 1 so that I have 2 ps1 mem cards in both slots. Now it detects a memory card but when it tries to save it says save data failed.

I want to know what everyone thinks I should do. Is there some kind of a trick that I can do?

Also What is the PS1 backwards compatability like? Will it save the game the HDD and bypass the memory card all together? Also I heard that the PS1 has no copy protection and that you can just download games and burn them, can someone tell me if this is true?

Is your PS1 memory card full, can you just save the game on a ps2 memory card? I really don't know what it could be since I never had this happen to me. The PS1 also requires some sort of a mod chip to be able to play burned games.

Ok Well I just tried FF8 and it saves but wont read the save after when I try to load it. Im not sure but possibly my old big PS2 will work, cus I remember playing it and saving with no problems.

Can someone tell me how good the PS3 PS1 backwards compatability is? Specificaly in the area of saving games like FF8 and Legend of dragoon.

PS1 games wont save on PS2 mem cards.

Reading through a wiki it seems that you can save ps1 games but not access the saved games.

Quote:
In addition to PS2 software, the PS2 can read both CDs and DVDs and is backward compatible with PlayStation games. The ability to play DVD movies was an added incentive for consumers to be able to justify purchasing the PS2 (the MSRP was US$300 in October 2000). The PS2 also supports PlayStation memory cards (for PlayStation game saves only) and controllers, although the memory cards only work with PS1 games and the controllers may not support all functions (such as analog buttons) for PS2 games.
The PlayStation 2's DualShock 2 controller is cosmetically similar to the original DualShock.

The PS2's DualShock 2 controller is essentially an upgraded PlayStation DualShock; analog face, shoulder and D-pad buttons replaced the digital buttons of the original. Like its predecessor, the DualShock 2 controller has force feedback, which is commonly called the "vibration" function. The standard PlayStation 2 memory card has an 8MB capacity and uses Sony's MagicGate encryption. This requirement prevented the production of memory cards by third parties who did not purchase a license for the Magicgate encryption. The memory card can store PlayStation game saves, but PlayStation games cannot read from or write to the card - it can only be used as a backup.

Well ya your half right.

My legend of dragoon cannot save games at all.

Final Fantasy 8 can save if I put a ps1 mem card in slot 1 while having another card in slot 2. But I have never been able to read a save file.

Also the controler works fine, everything works fine except the save feature.

Like I thought that the ps2 was suppose to have really good BC. And now I have 2 games that I cant play?

Will the ps3 be able to play these? I heard that you can make a memory card on the HDD but will that work?

I would appreciate it if someone who has some experience with playing ps1 games on the ps2 or ps3 would help me out here.
