Normal vdroop?

In the bios, I set my vcore at 1.275, when it's idle, CPU-Z reports 1.264, but then when running Orthos, the vcore drops to 1.248. Is that a normal vdroop or should I be worried?

Nope thats fine. It can be anywhere from 0-.8 ive even seen. Your perfectly fine.

Is there any way I can prevent it from drooping that much besides disabling all of the energy saving features?

Not that I know of, vdroop is a result of increased load, something to do with efficiency I think. If its affecting your stability just calculate the vdroop and up your bios voltage by that amount (provided you're still in the safe range).

I believe their is a pencil mod that fixes vdroop.

the droop is due to voltage loss through the hardware (not sure exactly how it is lost) so it isn't a simple software adjustment. the only way to cure vdroop is with a voltage mod. I just did one on my DFI. All it really does is make the droop less, it doesn't always remove it completely. I don't know if there is one published for your mobo or not, so you'll have to search around.

Before the mod I would set 1.552 in BIOS. Now, it only drops to 1.536 where as before it was 1.52ish. From what I can tell, it cut it in half. Some boards are worse than others. Also, I noticed I get different droops depending on the voltage I am running. For instance, I can set it to be at 1.552 at idle and 1.536v load, but if I raise the vcore in BIOS one more notch, it idles at 1.552v and loads at 1.552v.

Only problem with that is hotter idle temps. not usually a big deal, anyways.

Look for a pencil mod for your mobo. I looked but only find for DS3R on google.

vdroop volt mod.
but read up on it, the dangers of it come from whats called spiking, when going from load to idle generally there will be a bit of a spike in volts, with the vdroop it tends to even out, without it it tends to raise above your desired volt, not for a long time, but if running close to max voltage, it could be bad.. theres a whole thread on it over at toms "vdroop explained"

and mine is from 1.42 idle to 1.34 load.... now thats a vdroop.... as long as its stable, i wouldnt worry. the problem is when, like mine, you have to up the voltage so much to account for it...
