Anyone other than me use Avira? It has been the most powerful free AV with the smallest footprint I have ever used.

And you've announced that fact to the internet? Seriously, be careful.
I don't think anyone's prowling overclock.net looking for their next virus victim lol.

I use Symantec Corp. Flawless software that does not hog resources or have fancy GUI's. It's detected everything brilliantly. Male/Spy/Viruses. I would not change it for the world.

KAV is one of the two disputed kings of the AnitVirus world (other being NOD32.) If you go that route then you comp will be as protected as much as it could possible be from infection, but you must pay for it. AVG is a standardized AV and wont offer you as much protection, but its for free. Its a trade off, the choice is yours.

kaspersky vs avg = neither, although they are both good and popular free ones.

Avira is the best according to the tests http://www.av-comparatives.org/seite...se_2008_02.php although I'm sticking with Avast Pro for my AV protection especially now that the 4.8 version has anti-rootkit, spyware and self protection built-in. And along with Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and Windows Defender, I think I'm doing all I can to keep the nasties at bay.

Links are funky on that site...but I perused and found the test results. Awesome. Just as I suspected. I definitely suggest avira to those who haven't tried it.
