Overclocking old socket 754

Thread Starter
i have this old 754 2.4ghz processor on a crappy mobo that wont let me lock my agp frequency, i dont want to burn the video card up. i was wondering if i just simply increased only my multiplier rather than the fsb speed if that would increase my performance without overclocking the video card?
It works

It would be nice it you could but no, the CPU multi is locked upward (but not down). What mobo is it?

here is a review of that board. It'd be worth giving a look as they do use it to overclock a bit, atleast it'd give you some ideas of what it's capable of.

very nice article mr jules, in the article it says i cant lock my agp frequency, ok this sucks, but isnt hypertransport technology the bus that the chip speaks to I/O devices through? so in a sense if i slow my hypertransport bus from 800 to 600 and/or lower couldnt i then up my fsb and not overclock my other pci/agp devices? essentially bypassing the no agp/pci frequency lock?

I can't give you a breif definition of what the HTT is and does in any way that does it justice but if you will look in my sig and click "The Definitive DFI A64 Overclocking Guide" the first thing it discusses is HTT. Read that and it'll make much more sense.

Regardless though changing your HTT muli won't allow you to by pass anything like the AGP/PCI frequencies.
