just got an hp with athlon x2 64(live) 5000+ for 300 - Page 3

you are all missing my point.

What i am saying is that if he wants this computer in order to overclock some components and make this a gaming computer, then why the hell would he stick with the oem 300 watt psu that came in the case?
Thats what im saying.

Obviously he just dropped 170 dollars or more more for a new gpu, why wouldnt he invest in a 100 dollar psu that would allow him to upgrade so much more?

Your right I'm actually considering returning this PC now, I knew I should of just built one but this looked like a good deal at the time. I thought it would have at least 400w psu but I was wrong. I have until next friday to return and just might return it but I will keep my video card.

Cichlid, you could simply just purchase a new power supply. Not sure how your budget is but a Corsair 550VX can be purchased for under $100 after MIB's. The PSU is quality built and has a good reputation for being reliable (built by channel well technology). The only thing that concerns me is I'm not sure if your boards 24pin is compatible with another power supply other then HP's proprietary power supply. Your best bet it to give HP a call and ask an actual technician to confirm this.

Good luck, I hope everything works out if you decide to return it

i seriously doubt that an aftermarket psu wont work in this computer. I have replaced about 5 psu's in hp, dell, and compaq computers and not a single one have had a problem with the psu that i put in them.

turmionkatilot88, if I remember correctly Dell's XPS series had a proprietary 24pin on the motherboard. If a non-proprietary Dell PSU was plugged into the board it would damage components. Heck I've found a Compaq system on the side of the street that wouldn't work with any other PSU other then "compaq's". Not every machine is the same dude.

I was just giving him a warning to be careful and to double check with HP. You never know....

I have a question. What do you think will happen using my card with a 250W PSU instead of the 400w? And I can only hook up one of the power connectors directly to my card because the others are being used. I've tried hooking them both up by disconnecting my slave to see if I gained performance but it seemed to run exactly the same. So far nothing is wrong though, runs every game excellently, cod4,oblivion,crysis no problems.

I'm about to buy this psu for 39.99 from new egg. Do you think that should do it?

Cichlid, at worse you could damage some components. If that doesn't occur then you may run into random freezes/crashes. You'd definitely be stressing that PSU to it's limit...

Cichlid, I personally do not have any experience with apevia/aspire but I have heard the PSU's aren't exactly "great". The word I see most common with these is "junk". Some are also manufactured by Wintec.

Good luck buddy

Alright, that makes sense for the price but the new egg reviews seem positive. So I hope it runs we'll and fits into my somewhat small case.

I have had good luck with apevia psu's. I actually have one in my gf's comp and it works well. They are a little light but all the voltage readings are right. For the price, they are decent.
