Quantum3 is the result of 15 years development experience and enables developers to make use of advanced graphical features, including better dynamic bump mapping, light effects, glossing and other visual improvements. Additionally, Quantum3 uses a 16 TEV stage material pipeline that can blend up to 8 separate texture sources.
Not as great as they think it is, but its pretty decent for a Wii.

the reflections and bump mapping are nice, as is the lighting, but the geometry is still a little less complex, but, otherwise, it would be awesome if others used this engine.

i heard about this way back in september about this, i was unsure if it was a remake console of the wii, or just the game engine itself was changed.

yeah thats what i was thinking?

how can software/ a new engine magically upgrade the capabilities of the Wii's hardware? if they worked that out, PCs and the like would be out of business.

perhaps they mean they could implement it into a new Wii, maybe like 3 or 4 years down the road lol...when PS3/Xbox 360 graphics are considered a thing of the past.

You have to admit its still pretty nice when you consider the Wii's specs though. I've been playing Oblivion on my 360 for the past few days and I'd say this looks better.


At the very least it will hopefully stop developers from porting ps2 games onto the console. I mean, the Wii is more powerful than the Xbox, but most of the titles look worse than PS2 titles!

So, so true.

But don't fool yourself and think the PS3 or 360 are getting used to their full potential. It's an amazing thing, if you ever get a chance to watch elite developers creating optimized engines.

Those graphics remind me of Oblivion, except with less/no vegetation.

Umm...how do they get "PS3 and XB360 visuals" when the Wii can't output anything higher than 480p resolution? Last time i checked, the PS3 and XB360 output in resolutions up to 1080p, and 1080p is worlds better than 480p

Optimizing rendering requires figuring out new algorithms. Optimizing an application requires knowing how the CPU does stuff. We already know how most CPUs do stuff - but there's always room to create new unknown algorithms.

It's hyperbole.


My first exposure to an "elite" dev was the guy that made Payback(a game I had never heard of before). Most of you have probably never heard of it - but here's an article. He wrote a software renderer that uses HDR, and runs on ARM9 processors most often used in cell phones. [Pic] Might not interest most of you - but I found it pretty impressive.
