Overclock advice? q6600

Thread Starter
So far I feel that things have turned out well. The system tests solid at these settings, I'm mainly just curious to see if anyone has a suggestion as to where I could go from here.

*also* Im not interested in pushing my FSB much higher, mainly im looking for advice on the ram tweaking. At its current speed, the ram has not tested stable with any timing adjustments, even to 5-5-5-15 i had to bump up the voltage to 2.18, and the benchmarks didnt show enough to warrant the voltage.

What motherboard are you running this on? fill in your system specs in the user control panel..

If you're running an NVIDIA chipset, you should be able to get the command rate down to 1T..

And welcome to ocn!

What voltage are you running to the north bridge? You need to increase it as you raise the FSB.

interesting side note, with some more ram tweaking last night, i found that no matter what i set the command rate to in the bios, it is always 2T, sort of annoying but not a huge deal since my ram speeds would never support it

looks like the ram isnt going to be pushed any harder, wont step up one and wont stand for -any- changes to the timings; anyone have any suggestions on something to try?

(i did get stable tests out of the ram at 5-5-5-15 but i had to up the voltage to 2.18 and the gains were consistant but minimal, so i dropped it back to 2.16 and 5-5-5-18 / AUTO)

Everest is showing northbridge at 1.47 (about the same as my VCORE), its set to auto in the bios atm

the cooling is a custom heatsink from Digitial Storm, here let me get some pics up maybe you'll reconise it, since as you may be able to tell im just getting my feet wet here

up the north to allow more headroom? truthfully i didnt know what northbridge was until the night before last, is it the connection of the processor to the ram?

(sorry im trying to soak in all the information i can im not challenging )

Yeah, the northbridge controls the memory controller, the FSB and the video card. it also serves as a link between the CPU, video card and ram. Here it is labeled as X38 MCH. Here is a link that discusses the chipset.

ya something like that

edit: the heatsink in the pic looks like an arctic freezer 7 or 64.
