Overclock advice? q6600 - Page 4

I would like to help you but right now I am on a tight schedule work, children, wife and so on, but on saturday I can get back to you and in the meantime I have few questions and some reading suggestions for you

Why are you not interested in pushing high FSB?
What is your goal with just RAM tweak?
Are you stable at 1125@5-5-5-15?

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=3239

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208

I have OC a lot on a ASUS Blitz Formula SE (P35 chip) and I have tested the tweaks in those articles and they just kickass, it was like a revelation.

I be back

*also keep in mind* I know that this site is pretty much based on a continious climb to beat every test and sqeeze everything out of everything, but honestly im just looking for a strong stable set up to last me a couple years(and learn something along the way). originally i tested stable at 385/1.5but i backed it off a bit for that reason. Basically what im saying is that i dont want to try anything that is risky, as in that will cause reak damage, at all to get a small gain. And yes I know that all overclocking is risky, but hopefully you see what im getting at here

also thanks SO MUCH for everyones comments so far, im glad i found this forum

ps - everything in the system link below should be correct now

I'm not sure about your board, but my old Asus P35 (Blitz Extreme) wouldn't get stable if the NB ran any warmer then 47C, since yours is 53C, that might cause instability (don't kill me on this one, but you might want to look into the max NB temps your chip can handle).

Nebbie here,
I believe your Vcore could be much lower~ at the speed you have it running..

posted pic of some of my settings for your consideration

good luck....

Temperature, 3 hours of PC mark with everest monitoring shows a max temp of
core 1 71
core 2 68
core 3 62
core 4 62

Im in the process of modding my case a bit and beefing the cooling, we'll see if that helps

Truthfully I dont know, i mean all i did was set the ram up to the next avail speed that ran stable... seemed to me that there would be more work involved.

Completely.

Wattes, I've yet to see any stability issues. But thanks for the tip.

chrisparkermedia, i'll look into it, but i wanted my vcore setting to allow some headroom

that same 3 hour burn showed me a VERY odd #... what do you guys make of this?

Well, I don't think that that 83c is taking readings right from 1 of your 4 cores, but from somewhere else.

Well, if you don´t want do get higher on your FSB and just want to tweak your memory I think you have to try to set DRAM Static Read Control to Disabled, Ai Clock Twister to Strong, Transaction Booster to Manual and Boost Level to 2, you can try 3 but I doubt if it will work, you may also need to push you mem and NB volt some, with this setting you keep your bandwidth but decrease your latency.

If you don´t have Memset you should get it, because with it you can check all your mem timing and also your MCH Read Delay (tRD) Performence Level, if you have high number in Performance Level it takes longer to transfer data from the system bus (FSB) to the memory bus and vice versa, latency increase and this is probably thee most important setting, sometimes more important then timing.

With your setting it should be level 5

If you want to increase bandwidth and decrease latency I suggest to go with FSB 400-425, multi 8, 3 : 4 divider, timing 5-5-5-15, Performance Level 5,your CPUspeed should be 3,360-3400 and memspeed should be 1120-1133, as you see almost the same CPUspeed and memspeed that you have today but you should get a little more bandwidth and little lower latency.

Over and out

Good luck

sorry its been a crazy week, im going to try these out now, we'll see what happens!

update i tried those ram settings and it seems that even removing any 1 of the 3 gives either no start up or a quick crash upon start up... not sure whats up there

At 4 GHZ it runs really hot, but it can still run 3dmark06 fully.
