Can you elaborate as to why this wouldnt somehow work similar to a phase unit?

Would it work to switch out the coolant in this thing, I am sure it uses R22, I saw someone say they switched it to R134A, but I have some cans of R12 sitting around I know that it kills the ozone, but it cools well.

Kill the ozone? and yourself. Your rig would die from those temps whenever the AC went off. It would heat rapidly until Condensation happens. Thats why i wouldnt recomend this AC Idea to anyone.

Phase works because it freezes far past Condensation

I am talking about types of coolant that are around. I was asking what might be the harm in switching to a different type.

the reason it wouldnt work is because first off a AC unit has 2 parts a ari handler where the expansion takes place ( removes the heat from the air) and then the coil where the heat is then transfered to the air. in order for what you are talking about to work you would need both a compressor, and a coil. ( once for the expansion to the gas and one for transfering back to the liquid.) as it is alerady when we install units in houses we have to run a primary and secondary drain so even if you managed to seal up your computer it would still fill with water. the smallest unit is a 1 ton unit and still has 2 parts. you would be better off getting a small car AC setup and running that in your case as solid cold air. i hope that makes sence.

I wouldnt see any problem using different cooling at all. As long as the AC unit is capable of runing harder hitting Coolants. Its your call. I know you arent going to buy this case because of the lack of funds as you stated. I think Air cooling everything and putting it in a AC case an interesting concept for the creator. I think water would be the way to go at this point. @ 3ghz Im loading a 32c..

currently R22 is the best around and remember one molecule of R22 will kill 10000 molecules of Ozone and also has a 10K dollar fine. and you also have to have the right pressure and a device called a reclaimer to even extract the old r14 or what ever you are using out and bring the pipes and setup to a negative pressure

sorry i got way off topic. to answer your question yes i would get that case, it seems to have a great idea behind it but remember if you hit below ambient temps condensation will appear so watch that.
