there might not be a reason to buy a nvidia board but you know as well as I do many will. how many nvidia chipset users are out there that are only using one card?

still though many gpu sales would they get by doing sli on intel?

I wouldn't imagine much, i mean if someone wants SLI they just grab an nVidia board. Usually people know ahead of time if they ever will get SLI.

The only thing I heard (and even this was unofficial) was that the memory clocks of the RV770 would be in excess of 4GHz effective. So they're still coming up a bit short according to those specs, but not by much. 6GHz was the maximum speed that can be achieved with GDDR5, which was written in some articles posted here about GDDR5 a while back.

Yeah, when was memory ever released at the maximum speed it's generation is capable of?

As Rayvin said, 3GHz (6GHz effective), give or take a bit, is likely the speed GDDR5 will top out around.

Can you imagine the clocks that the HD4870 will be able to do then?!?! Stock is 3.8Ghz effective! That's a :turd: load of head room.

Always since 2006 you mean? Because before that, Nvidia really wasn't doing so good against ATI performance-wise. Especially if you want to think back to the FX series.

The one of arguably two series series which wasnt dominated by Nvidia you mean??

Geforce > MAXX

Geforce 2 > Radeon 32 + 64 They were relatively equal in terms of perf here.

Geforce 3 > Radeon 7xxx series

Geforce 4 > Radeon 8xxx series

Geforce FX (5) < Radeon 9700 Pro
The Definitive time that ATI PWNd

Geforce 6 > Radeon 9800/x800

Geforce 7 < Radeon x19xx

Geforce 8 > HD29xx/38xx
