[vr-zone] Radeon HD 4870 & 4850 specs out - Page 5

Skull trail motherboard supports both SLI and Crossfire right?

Looking at the specs, i don't think the HD 4870 will surpass the HD 3870x2, mabye dip it under a little since it is a single card. Nice ATi is sticking with the 256 memory interface for some nice cool chips. strange why doesn't ATi use GDDR4 for the cut up version of the 4850PRO. 1GB of ram on the 4870? so we should expect the 4870x2 to have 2GB?
Needs less 256bit interface.

I thought that 1 gig of ram was useless on a 256-bit bus, Ala: 8800gt 1gb???

anyway looks great, hopefully Its crossfireable with the hd 3800's. (I know, it won't be Officially)

I still dont see how these cards will be any good considering 8800GTS is mouch better then 3870 and making 4870 a bit better n 8800GTS is not going to give Nvidia a run.

Maybe. But remember: the more mainstream, mid-priced cards generally sell a lot more than the uber, high-end versions that deliver poor bang-for-your-buck.

Ahhh someone answer =P

Is the RAM Speed stated the un multiplied speed?

As in the RAM runs at an effective speed of 3870MHz

Considering it's GDDR5, I believe so. The frequency range generally increases with successive versions of Graphics Double Data Rate RAM.

Check out this link at X-Bit labs. It's a little old but has some info.

I guess I'll just enjoy actually using the memory on my cards while everyone else pretends they can.
what do you mean by that? so far i think people are putting too much into the memory bus width.

even more so with this situation when it has half the memory bus width but yet just about twice the mhz and yet still complain as though it would not be able to transfer data fast enough.
