I don't understand why you should only fire from the hip in a standing stance, that makes no sense at thats the most inacurate, you should use the crosshair at anytime when they are close enough or when moving fast.

The only guns that suffer from lack of range in COD4 are the shotguns, you cant have a silencer on a shotgun anyway.

This tactic is used as a crutch to wipe out swarms of mediocre players that don't know how to aim, and works fine w/ that. Try it on a pro, and not only will you get owned, but also look ridiculous while you get headshot.

If you need to, fine, different strokes ect. But be aware it's a really bad habit to have, and a hard one to break. Many servers will kick you for hopping. Most will ridicule you for it. Stick to basic aim+shoot and you'll be far better off, and much more talented in the long run.
The best players do bunnyhop, I play COD4 competitivley and recently attended a LAN with some of the worlds best COD4 teams attending, watch any of them and you will see you are wrong.

I love to jump. :3

My favorite tactic:

-DO NOT walk or run pass doors. Jump and crouch at the same time while sprinting to pass by the door.
-DO NOT walk in a room sprinting or walking. I personally prefer to jump and crouch at the same time while flying through the doorway into the room and shoot.

at a crouching position, you don't loose anywhere near the ratio of speed from looking down your sights then you do if your standing, I try never to fire from the hip unless standing unless they spawned ----> | Right there! lol. In terms of range, I can still deal damage with the p90 across the map. Silencer's decrease damage for me, not range.

when crouching its sometimes better to use the open sights as its quicker and not too inaccurate at short/medium ranges. We all have our own styles, I'm not telling you how you should play, just how I play

Im not sure if people are quite understanding what it means to lose range on a weapon.

It doesnt actually reduce the range.

All weapons have a max and min dmg that scales between 2 distances, even above the max distance the weapon will deal dmg, just the min dmg of that weapon.

So a silencer doesnt directly effect your guns damage, but it does reduce the distance at which its able to inflict max damage.

*edit*

It should be noted however that the ingame weapon rating shows the ACOG as adding range, it doesnt. It just allows a greater zoom.

I still have to say it does, it takes more bullets to kill at long range for me then normal with a silencer. At long range I've noticed I deal no damage which is where the range comes in.

Yes it will.

For example the M16 does 40-30 dmg at 1500-2000 range.

That means any anything under 1500 you do 40 damage.
At anything over 2000 you do 30 damage.
And it scales between those.

If you add a silencer it looks like this:

40-30 dmg at 500-1000 range.

So you now only deal 40 dmg under 500 and you deal 30 at a much shorter range as well.

So your damage will be reduced, but the actual bullet damage isnt reduced. Just the range you can deal that damage.

You do however still deal the min dmg at any range. The only exception to this is the shotgun, every other weapon has an infinite max range.

DOH! I wrote my original post wrong. Allow me to correct

I still have to say it does,

nice guide.

but Isileth is absolutely right lol...and you're agreeing with him, but you're not understanding.

it doesnt reduce damage per say, it reduces weapon effectiveness related to damage..Isileth explained it very well.

and whats with this 'bunny hopping' thing??? get off his back, he's not promoting players 'bunny hop'. and given we are humans, wouldnt it just be called jumping? lol.

the way i read it is that you mean when being fired upon to immediately prone, fire back, effectively killing your target since their aim is now way too high plus their recoil pushes it further out, then immediately standing back up and moving on.

thats not bunny hopping?? thats how you are supposed to fight as a soldier lol...its a brilliant technique. theres no loop hole or 'noobness' attached to that. its an effective combat strategy, one that most players would and should use, not just 'pros'.

is that what you meant?

Kind of, I was trying to stress the importance of randomness, jumping, proning, doing something unexpected. For the longest time in CoD:UO I would be in a gunfight and charge someone and melee kill them.
