SLI Power Question - Page 3

So I am getting the ABS Tagan after all. It gets outstanding stability reviews, and you can use the "turbo" feature to link the rails into one rail. And I just can't get turn chatchke. If it lights up, I want it.

In other news, I ran FAH for 8 hours when it froze (with one card). I consider this progress. Previously, I would have entered the "beeping of doom", an award infinite beep RAM error. Upon booting, my CPU clock would have been reset. This time it just froze, a more typical error. I bumped my Vcore a bit, which I have been expecting to have to do, and I just passed OCCT one hour.

I ran some power calculations, and with my setup, I was sitting smack dab on the limits of the rocketfish: 560 watts and 41A. It's rated for 41A max, and the 700W is 650 under super load, but 550 really. So I think after six hours of FAH, and a room that's currently 84 (i'm waiting for STUPID pollen to clear so I can open the window and install AC my wife and I AND our cats have crazy allergies), I think it just ****s the bed.

It used to be you get what you pay for. Now you get what you pay too much for. At least the new PSU will be much higher quality and output than this POS.

DuckieHo, don't crap on my chatchke. I won't see it glow.

Its a sub-par PSU. The Corsair PSU Duckie posted will EASILY power your system and then some.

my current 5V delivered by teh huntkey is 4.54V.

I have splurged and opted for a thermaltake toughpower 1000W. That oughta hold me until I have kids.

I still get random BSOD's from time to time with my current setup in Vista but XP is solid as a rock. Please don't rule out Vista as a possible contributor to your troubles....

Clox, you've got a point, but this all started when I moved into my antec 900 and STUPIDLY overheated my CPU by not seating the heatsink properly. I replaced the CPU, but since then, gremlins everywhere. Prior to that I was in this wonderful world where everything worked really well, even in vista64, and I could do whatever I wanted without fear. \\

At least my RMA mobo arrives tomorrow. My RAM tests solid as a rock still, so hopefully that will resolve my issue.

Plus its balls hot in here, 84F, so my 3.6 OC may be a little stressed. My load temp is only 58C, but there are other poor chipsets to consider as well. Maybe I'll dial it down a touch...

If you are dealing with hardware issues or unknow problems ALWAYS return to defaults for troubleshooting to start. Overclocking can potentially mess up numerous things so if you start fresh and all is well unfortunately by standard you wouldn't be entitled to RMA or warranty if it is only your overclock settings which cause instability.

Thats a great start right there to rule out a major piece of hardware, I am considering a 780i at the moment. Would you recommend it despite your problems?

I ran Striker Extreme with E6600@3.6 , Kingston HyperX 1200Mhz and 8800GTX SLI OC with Seasonic M12 700W and it was fine so you should be ok, but you never now.

When you OC Q6600@3.6 you put a awful lot of stress to your PSU and the rest of the system.

Maybe you should try to bring your quad down to 3.2, 3.0 or even to default and see if you still get BSOD, if you don´t then maybe your PSU can´t feed the Q6600@3.6.

You also put a lot of stress on your SPP with that quad and then you ad SLI and then you get more stress on MCP and HT.
So how are your volt setup on CPU FSB, SPP, MCP and HT and clock speed on PCIe_1,_2 and SPP-MCP.

Temp load on SPP and MCP?
