Why Windows? - Page 5

Why the Windows Family is used:
  • Ease of use for beginner users
  • More Programs run on windows
  • Better hardware support (Sometimes)
  • More Games run on it
  • People see it every day (I.E. In stores)
  • Most people grew up with windows and don't want to change
  • Protects a beginner user from messing up the system
i like windows because of the advance features. Also that speed fan only works with windows.

But i also use Lunix and other operating systems time to time

Compatibility, stability, speed, backup- security options, a (subjective) nice, easy to use interface, hardware/software- upgrade options, hardware/software- upgrade offers, fast and easy to execute tasks and a quick boot and shut down.

- This is what I primary await of an OS

Windows was in my case the only OS that recognized all my connected peripheral devices. (Bluetooth sticks, headsets, mouse, keyboard, cellphones)

The quintessence is that I'm using now various operating systems, Windows as the main one and the others just for testing.

1) It just plain works - install a piece of hardware and it automatically recognizes it and starts using it (installing a driver helps with advanced features but not always necessary). Install a piece of software and it works

2) Familiarity - been using it since 3.0 in conjunction with MS-DOS. When Win95 first came out, I thought it was lame that there was no way to completely exit and only use DOS so I didn't upgrade. When Win98se came out, I got a new PC and it came pre-installed. After using it for awhile, I realized how archaic and what a pain command lines are, which leads me to...

3) Ease of use - basic tasks are pretty simple. Double click on what you want to run and it fires up. Of course there are a bajillion configuration options but they're mostly intuitive.

4) Software compatability - pretty much everything has a Windows version for it. The same can't be said for Mac or *nix.

5) Stability - Windows XP is pretty stable. I don't have many random crashes, but they still occur on my work laptop. Windows Vista is freakin' solid - been running since November and no crashes at all yet (except for the weird Steam errors which seem to be fixed now)!

To answer very directly the question, "Why Windows?" I say, GAMES. That is simply the only reason I use windows.

Windows does my games.

Linux I play around with.

OSX does "everything else."
