Why Windows? - Page 9

For me, Windows has always just worked. Obviously it's not considered a rock stable OS, but FOR ME, I have never had an issue with stability or incompatibility. When I plug something in, or want to change something, I click a couple buttons and it does what I tell it to.

I've tried Linux on several occasions purely out of the interest and admiration generated on this forum, and every time I have ended with swearing, pulling my hair out, and the inevitable "I'm going back to Windows." Something as simple as setting up dual monitors crashed my system and corrupted my display configuration. It was due to my own ignorance and stupidity with respect to the Linux/Unix system that I wasn't able to fix it, but isn't it the OS's job to do all that complex stuff for me?

From my personal experience, the only drawback I've ever experienced with Windows is the price tag. Since I get Windows for free as an engineering student, that drawback is removed, so I stick with it and continue to enjoy it.

Then you should probably get one, because you have zero idea what you're talking about.

I guess that's why the major media industry prefers Macs over PCs for their businesses, right?

Actually, OSX is the easiest OS. Spanish is to language as OSX is to OSs.

...Isn't this thread about why people use Windows? Kinda...off topic maybe?

^ I'd have to agree to some point that Macs are used by people who don't know anything about computers. I don't back that up 100% but it IS marketed as something that works right out've the box, you can jump right in and start editing pictures, making websites, etc, etc. It comes with so many features that would have to be bought seperately with PC. People don't want the hassle of configuring and installing. Also, being almost prone to viruses is a big plus for people who just can't help but click every website, email, and button on thier computer.

I sell both for a living now, and depending on the customer I can turn into the biggst fanboy for both sides depending on what I got to do to make an income.
Please don't tell people that they don't know what they're talking about. Whether it's true or not, you just don't know.
I own both platforms, I've used both for years, and I work back and forth between the two and I know each ones high and low points.

As for why Windows? I'm all for open source, I have tons of open source programs installed and I'd love to use a free OS. As for now, I've tried Ubuntu, Mint, and Suse, but getting it set up, especially getting drivers for my graphics card was nearly impossible. I didn't find it easy or something that was user friendly. Support games is also a must and any wireless functionality on my laptop seemed lost.

I use windows because when I tried Ubuntu, and installed drivers for my gpu, I must have done something wrong, so the whole graphical system shut down. Also, it was soooooooooooo hard for me to get my wireless card working. So, if I was better with computers, I would probably use linux, but since Windows is easy for me to install drivers on, I use it.

As others have said, gaming, familiarity, ease of use, wide program support, no file type conflicts, no hardware compatibility issues, pretty GUI, and it doesn't carry the powergeek stigma.

I do know. He is a SPAMMER. He is trolling every OS thread copying/pasting that same message, some crap about "1500 testers say they 'like XP.'"

Btw, I use windows for gaming, OSX for everything else. I told him he should be using OSX because he said that OSX is for people who don't know anything about computers (which he doesn't).

Windows works for me, its has the occasional hiccups but most of that is my fault.

Oh one more thing..... IT CAN PLAY GAMES!

-like many said, if Linux played games, I would just on that boat as quickly as possible.
