If you do it correctly, an overclock will not shorten the life of your cpu. You could clock the q6600 3.0 Ghz no problem with decent aftermarket cooling. That wouldn't even be pushing it.

And switch to 780i and ddr2, just because its expensive doesn't mean its better. DDR3 isn't worth it right now.
Thats actually the changes I had made to my new list, I am just stupid.

Wow looks like a pretty insane rig... but I'd get a core 2 duo instead of a quad if you're gaming... a quad is more if you're doing a lot of multitasking.

You're going to want more RAM if you're going with Vista x64. 2GB doesn't cut the mustard in some games. (or at least it doesn't in my machine.) Battlefield 2 is a nightmare.

Also, I'd stay away from RAID 0 if i were you... though it is fast, if one hard drive fails, the whole thing goes down. if you do end up doing raid 0, definitely back up all your data routinely.

Yea thats why I've never really thought of setting up an array, i'll just stick with the two I have picked out.

As long as you make periodic backups of your data it won't matter. A single drive can fail just the same, and a 10k drive is more likely to fail than a 7.2k drive. I love my raid 0 array, it is very fast at booting and moving files. Once every few months, though, I offload all my files on a DVD and put it in my dads safe, just in case.
