To go SLI or Not go SLI? (opinions needed)

Thread Starter
I have the 8800GTS (640mb) card. Do you guys think I would be better off going SLI or buying a 9800GTX?

If the 9800GTX is the case. Do you think my 700w OCZ powersupply with (4) 12 volt rails @ 18amps a piece can run it?

Thanks,
Baked

1600x1200 now. This summer I plan to buy a new 24" 1900x1200 Display. I like to use at least 2x AA and 16x AF

Often you benefit from SLI when you are playing at high resolutions. From my personal opinion, I'd say get the second GTS if you plan on playing at that resolution. However, if you don't like the performance gain then you could just sell your first GTS and step up from your second GTS . And yes, I know that's not an eVGA card, but I heard you can still SLI different brand cards.

SLI 8800GTS 640 Mb are fine for now, I would wait (and am doing) to see what the GT200 can do.

I think that if you get the 9800gtx - your going to have the SLI bug again in about 3 weeks and want to buy a second 9800....

just squash the bug now and get the 8800...as pvp309rcp said - you can always step-up or sell them later.

I Ran 2 8800 GTS 320's at 1680 x 1050, and to be honest, I could not notice the difference in games. Benchmarks improved, but not what I was looking for.

I am going to be upgrading to a 1900x1200 display though, with 2x or 4x AA, I think SLI would be a better choice. I think I'm just going to buy an EVGA 8800GTS to compliment my current Foxconn. I checked out EVGA's site, it looks like I can do the step-up thing up to 3 months after I purchase the card.

- Thanks for all the input guys
