How do you make this? (Waterblock)

Is this a mold that copper is poured in? Just wondering how blocks are made. I want to make one. Also, why are blocks so thin? Why not double the thickness and let more water pass through.

It saves space by making them smaller. The amount of water passing through the block is pretty much unimportant. What matters is how well the water can transfer the heat from the metal. A thinner base means better heat conduct, which means better temps. If you want to make your own block, use a milling machine, it's the most effective and you can't mess up as badly with sand casting.

More water flow than what its already at is unnecessary. Water has a very high specific heat capacity and can remove a huge amount of heat, the current problem is that the rate of heat transfer between the waterblock and the CPU core is too slow. So more water flow will not make a notable different maybe 1-3 degrees max.

Most waterblocks are actually CNC milled, meaning a piece of copper is drilled into by a mill from a computer programmed design. The thinner the base, the better the heat transfer, and therefore the better the cooling.

I don't mean the thickness of the base, I mean the thickness of the rods coming up. I guess after a certain point they lose their integrity.

well the thinner they are, the less space they take up and the more you can cram in there. The more tiny pins, the greater the surface contact area between copper and water.

What if you did some kind of two chamber design? Or maybe use the heat in a way that would give a benefit back to the system, kind of like turbo on an engine.
