Big difference in performance for E8400?

Would I notice a difference in performance if I went from 4.0ghz to 4.2ghz?

noticeable? i'd say no

but you'll see a benchmark difference

not at all. A CPU is almost NEVER pegged at 100% (other than in Prime 95/Orthos, hehe). Even games wouldn't see an FPS increase from that. You might see a VERY small difference in rendering/video encoding.

Running a desktop doesn't take hardly any power, very little other than more memory/faster hard drives actually causes a visible difference in performance.
