LAPPING, kinda worried......!!!

I am really not liking my 63cLOAD temp.

I know It's my cpu's fault because theres 4 little marks on my heatsink and its not Laying Flat together making GREAT temps....

I know how to lap. I did my heatsink.
But I'm worried about doing my cpu, I mean It still has a 3 year warranty and what happens if it dies??? Then I'm screwed right???

I'm all for it But just a little nervous if my cpu dies within this year.
Kinda strapped for cash and want the best temps i can get with the setup i have right now.

I lapped my D830 and seen a BIG temp difference and I'd like that for here.
Can anyone help me out here? thanks

recently because I just did 3dmark06 and its summer now And I scored a 13360 and thats great but me no likey the temps hahah

Best bet is, your cpu is going to have a much better life span with lower temps. It's not all that likely that it would die b4 warrenty is up anyways. I do see your delilma though. YES the warrenty would be voided. Best bet would be trying to set a little money aside whenever possible, that way just in case worse comes to worse, it would be a little easier. Then if nothing happens to your cpu then you would have saved up the money for an upgrade later.

Hmmm I suppose but a 169 dollar paper weight sucks... My opty165 did that after i removed the IHS It worked great for a year then died for a Storm.

I'm gonna man up and go lap her. If you guys don't hear from me in 3 hours TOPS. mainly should take me 30 mins. I will then be using my Trusty Pentium D830 dual Core. DAMN U 90nm Heater.

Just remember the cardinal rule. "just because your cpu is shinny doesn't mean you can spend it as currency"

I never lap for exactly the reasons your scared of, if my warranty is over well then who cares, but I have been able to get where I want to be without any need for lapping.

GRRR now i'm not completely sure. I really want to, but that warranty and price of the cpu is holding on me, If i have some more feedback i'll do it.

I'd say go with gut feeling.. In your shoes i wouldn't do it.. Put the pros and cons together.. To you whichever weighs more go with that.. IE if u decide that you're willing to take a risk for a cooler proc go for it.. But weigh it vs no risk and a guarantee of working for years to come

Kinda redundant i know.

GRRR INTEL. Start selling Completely flat CPU's That would stop us from screwing with them... there stupid.

Ive lapped the last 6 or so cpu's that I have owned and never hurt one by lapping it. I have hurt one or two by delidding them but that is to be expected.

Also even with really dumping on them and running high volts with high temps have never had a cpu fail. As long as you stay within reasonable limits for a given process then youll be fine barring a lighting storm that knocks it out or something like that.
