My thoughts exactly. Oblivion is still one of the best looking, longest lasting games you can play and its on DVD. Gotta love how BluRay *wins* the format *war* and now everyone wants BluRay so they can put compressionless audio and video on the disk extending load times and really just bloating up the disk.

I still say BR is a fad that will pass a lot quicker than DVD did, especially once USB3 and cheap SSD starts comming out at the end of the year. It wont be too long until we get our games either offline using DD or through the use of a high speed USB key.

I am going to skip the BR boat completely and I bet my life will keep on without a hitch. Nice try Sony. If you wouldnt have forced a new format on me, that you were backing no less, I may be a little more forgiving in trying it. But personally, I do not like being forced to adopt something new-fangled when the current works so well.

Blue Dragon for 360 did it. 3 times.

Oblivion is downright old at this point. It's simply not evidence of DVD9's being big enough.

So, did anybody else see the source, this would be like an article on www.ati.com telling you how Nvidia cards can't handle new games because they have so few shader units.

The source might be biased but it makes a good point, even though right now blue ray is unnecessary; the games in the future will become larger making dvd's a thing of the past. Even one of the developers of GTA IV states that. I pose this question, if you were a game developer and you had to choose between two systems that have almost the same specifications but one had a larger disc capacity, who would you choose?

i think the only thing that the Blu-Ray disc can accomplish over other media is the ability to allow for uncompressed sound, meaning the best possible sound quality, on top of maximum texture size.

i dont see anything wrong with that at all, its a wise move. i'll bet if HD-DVD hadnt of gone under, Microsoft would of sparked a deal.

The good old grapevine said that Konami's MGS4 for PS3 has filled up the entire Blu-Ray disc...i mean, even with uncompressed sound and all those texture files and game data, filling a Blu-Ray disc is pretty tough..they even had to cut down on certain content to actually make the game fit, much to the developer's dislike.

i think all devs are greatly limited by the size of media content..and games are only gonna get bigger.

Blu-Ray is far from dying at the moment i can tell you that much. its closer to becoming a media standard than a dying format right now.

If they had to cut things out of MGS4 to fit it in the ~45Gb range then they are doing something wrong other than lossless audio/video. You dont go from putting games on 9Gb just fine to needing more than 45 over night without doing something wrong.

Loss*y* audio is just fine and you wouldnt know the difference between lossless and lossy anyway. Its been proven. The size is an excuse to be lazy.
