Loss*y* audio is just fine and you wouldnt know the difference between lossless and lossy anyway. Its been proven. The size is an excuse to be lazy.
lol fair enough about audio, but how are they doing something 'wrong'? im sorry, but you're laying claim that a reknowned game developer, Konami, doesnt know what they're doing? haha.

if they've managed to fill up an entire Blu-Ray disc, they arnt doing anything wrong, they are doing everything right, obviously packing the game with more detailed content. not necessarily more content, but deeper content. perhaps larger textures, can depend on the size of the game map. theres probably also a lot of extra data that requires off-loading onto the PS3 hard drive to reduce load times, a lot of games do that. lossless audio can take up a very large amount of room, and given a better quality stereo, a lot of people, especially audio enthusiasts, could tell the difference. not to mention potential multi-player content to go with.

i see what you mean, but i cant agree with you in that they are just lazy and doing things wrong. im sorry, but im pretty sure they know a LOT more than you or i mate

I am glad we can come to a peaceful understanding but I beg to differ. Download a lossless and lossy audio file and you have to litteraly see the difference on a oscilliscope because you really cant hear it. I know, I have done this before and I have big ears

The gameplay I have seen even in *HD* shows some VERY blotchy textrures so they must have a TON of movie on there to fill that up. I will continue to go back to Oblivion and the upcomming FarCry 2 which are both on DVD and doing just fine. Oblivion is still one of the best looking games out there and it is absolutely HUGE with great sounds/music/video and they crammed it onto the "tiny" dvd. FarCry 2 has some EXTREMELY high res textures and, I think, has a 100x100 square km map size? It may even be bigger than that with graphics that rival ANYTHING out so you cannot tell me they are not doing SOMETHING wrong if they run out of space with that much to work with. If MGS4 isnt 1k hours long with half a years worth of cutscenes, given the texture quality, then ill be dissapointed. Just my two cents friend

If it's such a problem... Put it on two disks. Although that may not be possible in a free world game like GTA.

Oblivion is downright old at this point. It's simply not evidence of DVD9's being big enough.
OK then take Crysis for example, it's just as long as other FPS shooters that are coming out on PS3 and 360, which take about 5-8 hours to beat But Crysis is smashed in to 6GB of space. So how can games devs be running out of space when a game with texture quality X5-8 better than any console game/hardware can produce is easily fit on to a standard DVD9 disc.

I don’t see how MGS4 can’t fit on to a DL DVD when the first and second levels of crysis probably have more detail in them than all of MGS4. And all the MGS games have always been very linear in their mapping and story telling. So I don't think we will be seeing any large massive areas that can be walked thought or interacted with in MGS4 like we sow in Oblivion.

Grand theft auto is not even that good looking. So I do see what their problem is there, And as seen with oblivion massive environments don’t seem to be much of problem.

Even when using the cyrsis game editor and making massive levels they still don’t take up much size at all on my HDD.

Any game in current consoles that take up more than a DL DVD worth of space are just examples of bad programming.

These systems can even render environments or audio with enough detail to need to take up that much space.

Then frickin' use 2 DVDs! There is no reason to whine about this, whether it be a consumer or a developer doing the whining.

Um, things are installed on a PC. That is not the case with the 360, so that is why you can fit a game like Crysis onto a DVD. It's compressed!

So are many parts of games on consoles. Just like lossy audio, its uncompressed as you need/use it.

I agree with the two DVD thing though. By the time games for PCs are shipping on BR(which i doubt will ever happen) well have moved onto a full DD system.

Is there not a difference between being compressed on the CD/DVD and what is left after installation onto a HDD? I'd be willing to bet files are created during installation from fragments that are much smaller. Plus, GTA is an expansive environment, so it is expected to be larger than games like Crysis despite the graphics differential.
