Yes, you'll be fine. "Desktop" is just a generic name they apply to all non-server uses.

Yes, that's the version you want. I love Suse and all (it is my favorite distro), but this is just spectacular.

Suse 11.0 comes out in 53 days, though! I'm excited for that, too. Hopefully they make some improvements on the same grand scale that Ubuntu has.

And Fedora 9 comes out May 13. There is a lot to look forward to in the coming months.

Basically while you're in Windows, you put in a copy of Ubuntu and install it within Windows. Next time you restart you'll have the option of running Ubuntu to see how it works for your PC. If you don't like it, you just remove it in Windows like you would any other application.

No dual-booting or hassle required to run Ubuntu and Windows

I feel the same way. I've been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my laptop since 7.04.

Weee, found compiz fusion bug!

So, wubi is the greatest thing ever. No more hassle with CDs! 8.04 is so freaking beautiful and fast! Blows other OSs way out of the water.

Yeah, the windozers are always complaining about "boot times" (why would you care if your OS can stay up 24/7 lol), but they really improved the boot time on this version. On my sister's laptop (sempron 1.6GHz, 256MB RAM, 4200RPM HDD), she can get to the desktop in about 30 seconds from hitting the on button.

And seriously, this version looks VERY polished. They used to have some kind of mistake here and there, maybe an "irregular Capitalization" on a word, maybe something wouldn't match the theme and seems like it was just stuck there - but in 8.04, everything is very uniform in terms of looks.

This is amazing stuff.
