I think my bios is 1.45 and everest reads 1.43 or 1.44 I think.

Sorry It could be me, I dunno. I am gonna try 8*400 and see if I can stable out. But if I cant get this stable even at 2.5ghz than I am gonna call and send it back and get Q9450.

Maybe its the fact that am using the stock cooler but my temps aren't that high. I know it cant be my board or ram because my E2160 was fine. My bios supports my quad. But I still find it funky that I cant be on default with my Q6600 in bios to even start my computer.

Would reinstalling windows help out maybe?

Maybe reinstall Vista?
I have no knowledge of over clocking or problems that come along with it...but it's really weird that you can't even run the Q6600 at 2.4ghz?? ( I think that's what you're saying) I guess I would try a fresh install of windows if it isn't too much of a problem for you. Otherwise it really sounds like the chip may be bad, it makes no sense that it won't even run at stock, it SHOULD always run at stock. What's your batch number/pack date? I'd call and have them exchange it for another Q6600 and if that one doesn't work then go for the 9450, even though i've heard 45nm is more sensitive to OCing and temp/voltage.

Well havent tried 2.4 yet. What I ended up doing was rasing the FSB to 333 and that let me into windows. Other than that stock default settings will just give me a blank black screen with all my fans at full RPM until I power off the computer.

I sent them a email and Ill see what they say.

For your sake I'm hoping you just got a bad chip and that they'll send a replacement (quickly) and you'll get straight to 3.6ghz.

For my sake I hope that our difference in batches means I will have a good chip that OC's well. I'm batch number L804A670 pack date 03/31/08. I thought I read somewhere that batch numbers with A in them mean they are slightly better or something? I could also be pulling this out of no where.

I got to 3.6ghz with this chip, it just took 1.55...and more I think to get there. My temps were way up there in the danger zone. It was a sucide run on stock cooler. I think I need to just buckle down and get a TRUE.

Holy crap thats some high VID right there! Id actually sell it if I were you, then rebuy a random one. guaranteed at least 5C drop in temps and 90% you'll get to 3.6ghz.
