PC sales are up.

The often quoted "PC game sales are down" is from National Purchase Diary. However, they are not counting downloaded games (Steam, Ubisoft, EA), subscription games (WoW, Eve), or causal games (Bejeweled, Diner Dash).

Basically, they are not including a HUGE percentages on non-traditional sales.

yeah, almost all the games I buy are from Steam... because guess what? if you loose the disks you can just re download it. I only buy the games in store that I can't get on steam. Figures though, as soon as I bought UT3 in store it becomes available on steam...

this thread finally made me sign up, had enough of lurking.

this topic is really important for gaming. i enjoy being able to control how i play my game, and tweak it as i like. multiplayer is also a lot more important to me than single player.

piracy, however, pisses me off. maybe it's because i don't download thing's illegally, and if i did my opinion would be the opposite? but i hope it wouldnt. because every business is fueled on money, and if you screw them, they're going to screw someone, and it could end up being you.

i don't buy that many games though, and they tend to be the good ones. ought to give steam a bit more money, they deserve it..

It's disgusting attitudes like that and people who pirate that screw over those of us who do things right. After what has been said in that editorial, there is pretty much nothing any pirate can say to justify their point, but they will try and try because they are so convoluted with their heads up each others' asses (which they probably didn't pay for, either) that they can't realize how they are destroying things and creating the very problems they are whining about. People like that are a waste of oxygen if they are so dense that they can't even grasp that what they are doing is wrong.

That is very depressing news. At least I can say any time I had ever pirated a game, and it crashed repeatedly, I usually blamed it on it being pirated as most companies won't release games that are that bad off. Anyone who thinks otherwise has no clue...

Anyways, I'm glad I don't pirate anymore.

Don't give me that crap, lately pc gamers have been getting the shaft, cod4 for pc doesn't even have prestige mode, doesn't even have a date for the new maps.

Yea i pirate games and i also buy it if i like it. Why the hell should i pay for a game that doesn't work or just flat out sucks. I don't keep games installed that i don't like. And i'd like to think others do the same. Not everyone is out to get you

The research you've seen ? let me guess npd numbers. Which don't count in online sales. I'd like to see his research. I bought cod4 the day it came out and it was the last copy for pc. Not to mention pc games sell for years, unlike console games.
For starters, if PC games aren't as developed it can sometimes be traced back to the fact that people like you pirate, so you are whining about something you helped cause. Congratulations on your self-fulfilling prophecy!

You can buy pretty much any game for console or PC still if you spend a little time looking.

Well if he was then my apologies, though I was careful to be directing my words at all pirates and not just him, so what I said still stands.

I have zero appreciation for people that blatantly Pirate Games.

Of course, if game devs made it harder to do it would solve a lot of problems.

Just more proof that the world is ****ed. Like he said, "[...]actually spent some god-damn money for their 40+ hours of entertainment[...]"

Geez, don't be so goddamn cheap people. Look at whatever job your doing to earn a living. These people are just doing the same thing (relatively). How would you feel if whatever service or product that you sold was just stolen from you without consent, causing you to not be able to take that money home to feed your wife and kids, or have that sweet gaming rig that allows you to play these games (that you should be BUYING) you so love.

As I said, I have no love for people that pirate games to the extent that a lot of people do.

And I don't want to hear "oh, but they are so expensive". Bull****. If they are too expensive, don't buy them. Thats the way the world works. You can't afford that nice car, can you? Do you have it anyway because you stole it? No, 99% of people don't. Its called decency.

Why should i spend money on a crappy product ? that's why i download the game, to test it out. If i don't like it, it won't stay on my computer and i'm not going to buy it.
