Hypothetically, if RussianGR talks me into this, is there a x48 board that supports both ddr2 and ddr3? I thought I heard something like that a while ago.
And although I do spend like an idiot, there is a stopping point. The next ram I was looking at was over 700 dollars. No thanks. Which would be the best ddr2 I could get? I was thinking like this

The boards that support both types of RAM have overclocking problems with one or the other type of RAM, but not both. The Mushkin RedLine series is pretty good, kind of expensive though.

but I heard it was harder to overclock with more memory sticks?

On NVidia chipsets it is harder, on Intel chipsets though... You can run 8GB of RAM, CF, RAID, and overclock all at the same time without problems.

Don't buy that insanely overpriced RAM that under performs! Mushkin RedLine DDR2-1000 4-5-5-11 (I think) 2.3v $200ish.

Well supposedly the newer 9650s also have the C1 stepping, mines pretty new but it's a C0.

Hwat was the question again? 1:1 works well, but pure speed is usually better.

So I should just get the fastest clocked memory that I can find?

That defeats the whole purpose of overclocking doesn't it?

So you're saying that there is no difference between the memory that I could buy, because they all overclock the same...?

No, that's not what I mean. DDR2 has a maximum speed, it's when you just can't overclock any further and no one sells RAM at that speed. For DDR2, it's about 1200Mhz. You can spend the money for RAM that is rated for 1200Mhz, or RAM rated at 1000 that uses the same chips as the 1200 and overclock it to 1200. That is why Overclocking was invented!
