GPA_Voltaire , i'm pretty sure that 3 9800gtx cards cost more than 1 9800gx2. + performance improvements are debatable over the much cheaper 8800gtx.

also, for the HDD, you want a Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB. My favourite mag, Custom PC tested it with about 25 other disks, and it was the fastest, save for the 1TB Spinpoint F1 (yes, they tested a raptor x as well) And they used real world benchmarks, such as the gimp running a script, and how long it took to load a level of Crysis

Lose the 9 series card, lose the ddr3 RAM/Board, go Raid0 with fast drives instead of single raptor (or could see about the new velociraptor when they come out I definately would). Othe than that everythign looks tasty.

I highly suggest a sound card for AoC. Take a look at the Auzentech Prelude.

I would get a quad (not sure what model, q6600 is great), a x38 chipset. Get a 3870x2, 1066mhz ram DDR2 with low timings. Get 2x750gb hds and put in RAID 0. Get water cooling for overclocking. Get a samsung 24in lcd.

If you want nvidia get 8800gts g92 and put them in sli. You will need to change the boad since the x38 is crossfire.

Money can be saved by using different ram and getting a different processor.

Also, if you have your own monitor, that too will save money.
I like that build, I'd go with that one .

The case is up to you, and for CPU cooling I would go with a TRUE or OCZ Vendetta 2 (heard its better, not sure though).

You could raid some hard drives for better performance also.

G.SKILL makes some good 2x2GB kits also, like this or this.

EDIT: Forgot...if you do video editing or heavy multitasking you may want to look into the Q6600.

How big of a screen do you want? It will most likely determine your video card(s).

No no no, Just wait for the DX11 videocards and DDR4 Ram, Cuz the DX10 and DDR3 is just a joke. Just wait for it!!
why soo many people hate the GX2? GX2 is the Best Videocard for gaming right now. Yea it cost little bit more But if you have the $ than why not?

anyway, If you want SLI, I will say get 2x 9800GTX with SLI MB. Or get the X48 mb with GX2.
I love ATI But they not as good as nvidia for gaming.

Thread Starter
UPDATE: decided on vid card. and processor. now all i need is the mobo.
the x38 was recomended but this picture turned me away from it pretty fast http://www.ngohq.com/images/x38d.jpg

ok so sofar i am doing the raid with: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive: 200

MSI R3870X2-T2D1G OC Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

im getting the COOLER MASTER CM Stacker 830 RC-830-KKR3 Full Tower Case
included a Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000W Power Supply; just cuz its a steal for only $350 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10005963

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 : $200 (still lil doubt, some ppl said go with the quad some said duo but no one said WHY!) remember its a gaming pc

getting DDR3 (unless someone STRONGLY disagrees and gives a reason)

not getting audio card (again unless someone says it boosts my pc by like 15% while gaming and is worth the money)

so ive narrowed it down a bit... help me narrow just one more time plz

In general, PSUs sold with cases are usually not good. If you can find out the amps on the 12V rail it would help determine whether it is good or not.

I stated earlier why you would need a quad: multitasking and/or video editing. Since it's gaming the E8400 would be perfefct.

DDR3- I disagree because 1. It's expensive right now and I would rather the extra $100s be spent somewhere else (like on monitor, video card etc) 2. It doesn't have much more performance than DDR2 other than higher Mhz. You can get DDR3 if you want, but if I was building a computer-I wouldn't.

Sound card does not really boost performance, but obviously it does wonders for your audio, especially paired with good speakers. I would recommend you get one since you have a good amount of money on the table, but its your preference.

EDIT: What speakers are you getting? Do you have a preference? Because I love mine, one of the best 2.1 speakers imo.
