HORRIBLE CoD 4 online perfomance - Page 2

Next time you play cod4 press the key to the left of number 1 (tilde key ~) top left should be... im on a uk keyboard set up

Type into the consol: /com_maxfps 0 (0 = whichever number you want, I use 150)

It should override the default game setting 91 fps. Its perfectly fine with punkbuster dont worry.

Heres a couple of others I use

/snaps 30 - default is 20, basically updates you of everyones position during the game quicker.

/cl_maxpackets 100 - might help some slower connections.

These all just add minor improvements.

I had the same problem and for some reason it was the drivers and the version card i was using. Sounds stupid but downgrade the drivers to a older version and see what happens.

Sounds to me like you have something using up your internet bandwidth. fps in this game and any other games is greatly related by bandwidth. Make sure your not running any apps in the background (weather they are downloading or not) I had a buddy that had bitcomet running in the background just killing his fps, after I saw it was running, told him to close it down and try again, there was a noticable difference. If your running a router, and other computers make sure other people using thoes computers aren't downloading and using up all your bandwidth. Also I recommend using a modified config file found HERE I have a max of 180fps and a avg of 130fps due to their config files, also my ping is hardly ever over 50, and that's on crappy Time Warner cable.

Anywho hope this helps!

I've been kicked off some servers by PB b/c I set maxfps to 300. Not sure why, but it seems anything <200 is ok.

And this is only a solution for max fps. CoD4 runs great but there are times when even I fall to ~30fps in big firefights + smoke + airstrike. Some maps w/ ambient rendered graphics (downfall, countdown) can also eat up GPU time.

EDIT: well I'm off to bed, but I've noticed if you minimize your game in CoD4 it totally kills FPS, just an idea I thought I might throw out there
i play fullscreen only.

Posted this a while back to help someone. It has a few extra changes that have not been said yet.

Found it.

"First, you should make a backup of your original config file.

Below is the standard folder where your multiplayer config file is located:

My Computer
Local Disk (C) for most people
Program Files
Activision
Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare
Players
Profiles
"Name" (Your player name)
config_mp.cfg (open in wordpad)

Change the following

seta cg_drawFPS "1"
seta cg_drawLagometer "1"
seta cl_maxpackets "100"
seta com_hunkMegs "512" - or half your RAM
seta com_maxfps "125" - set to "333" for high end cards
seta rate "25000"
seta snaps "30"
seta cl_packetdup "0"
seta r_gpusync "0"

(Save)

Also, I have my config file write protected so no permanent config file changes can be made without me doing them manually." Link: http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/boa...ghlight=config

The first 2 (seta cg_drawFPS "1" and seta cg_drawLagometer "1") I left set to 0, they are graphical on screen FPS and connection monitors. The seta r_gpusync "0" and seta com_hunkMegs "512" are not present in the config file so you have to go into the console and enter them there and don't put the " in the line. Hope this helps you. Cheers
Also forgot to add earlier cod4 uses port 28960, so you can open that port on you routers and firewalls as well.

Just a little Correction: PB will sometimes kick people for having /com_maxfps not between 1 and 250. However, most servers won't. You'll get a little warning in the corner a few times before PB kicks you for it.
