Something is toast, but what is it?

Ok so for the last few days I have been experiencing an enormous amount of issues with my system. I was suspecting the ram, because I pushed them a bit too far and *may* have sauteed them. Examples of what I am talking about are occasional failures to post with stable settings, BSOD in windows, random reboots etc. The system ran fine up until last week when it started really complaining at me. So I swap out the ram and the system runs like a dream again, except orthos. I cannot run the blend test. I can run small or large FFTs but not the blend. I ran memtest last nite and the memory passed, so im thinking its one of two things, however not sure as to WHICH is the case. To me, its either the northbridge getting too hot/blown board (dont know how as its cooled by 3 heatsinks linked by dual heatpipes, and is running on stock voltage), OR the cpu is toast. Memory tested fine. Orthos DID work until the other day when it started shooting these errors off at me. FYI, im running stock settings, NO OC and its STILL doing it. So something somewhere is definitly toast

Any takers?

If you pushed your components past their limits they can take damage and still work. So it is possible that you have a damaged component without knowing it.

Check all the capcitors on the mobo. Are any blown up? The cpu might have taken voltage damage. That would suck.

Your ram might be the cause.

I had that problem once, all i did was set bios options to default. Everything was fixed. Its hard to diagnose a problem like that.

Ok, so I did some checking, found ONE thread similar to this from another site, turns out that person had a corrupt installation. I figured I would try his route before swapping any additional hardware, so I formatted, and as of now, on a clean format (no drivers even) I can run orthos stable. I will be installing my drivers soon, then getting the system back to par, and THEN putting my stable OC back in place and seeing if it was a memory issue that perhaps corrupted my install. Hopefully thats all it was :s

Update. On my new installation still, without any software (aside from orthos) installed, and orthos is still doing it. Back to the drawing board. I am gonna swap out the chip in a short while and try to run orthos on both systems and see where that takes me.
