Limited Overclocking of 5000+ Black edition

Thread Starter
Now this CPU is supposed to go to 3.3 - 3.4 GHz.
from all my expirements the max stable overclock I could get when playing heavy 3D games is 3081MHz.
This is obtained by a 15x206FSB. Memory dropped from 800 to 667 and HT from 5x to 4x.
The above are with stock voltage.

With increased voltage of CPU (1.45v) I managed to get 3200MHz only with 16x200.
I have tried upping the mem voltage a bit with no result.

Nothing is running hot cpu is around 40c and graph card around 49, mboard around 38, my case is well ventilated and I also have extra fans.

My mboard is a gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H and my ram is OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) (with heatsinks).
My PSU is a good quality thermaltake 420W, and generally the electrical current over here is very stable.

Can anyone offer any tips for increasing the speed even more???

just keep your ram/cpu fsb at a 1:1 ratio.

With the black edition you can change your multiplyer to anything. It should make it really easy.

Actually most people I've seen get 3.2-3.3GHz. When a couple lucky people get 3.4GHz it tends to send the whole forum chanting things like "the 5000BE will hit 3.4GHz" when the typical user doesn't get that high. I've seen just as many people unable to hit 3.2GHz as I have seen breaking 3.35GHz.

You have a little more headroom with the CPU voltage given it's at 1.45v and the temps are good. I run all my X2's around 1.50v and haven't had any die on me. Another thing you can try is experimenting with different memory timings. Some people here claim that fine tuning the tRFC, ASync, and tRC have allowed them to push a little further. Other than that I say be happy with what you have, 3.2-3.3GHz is a good overclock.

but I don't get 3.3GHz!!!
and the 3.2ghz don't know if its stable , I haven't tried it for more than one hour.
so you are saying that 1.5v is ok for long term use (at least 2 years)?
with the ram I have expiremented a little, trying to increase their performance by decreasing timings. Very very limited results, most of the time I got crashes and had to clear the cmos battery even after increasing the ram voltage by 0.2v
I also tried relaxing the timings to their stock values, that didn't help much either with the oc

It happens, lots of people break 3.0GHz with their X2 4000+ and mine only hit 2.85GHz, some CPU's are just a not-so-great batch. I've seen people unable to hit 3.2GHz with your chip so there's nothing wrong with a 3.15-3.25GHz overclock.

And yes, as long as you have a good aftermarket cooler and temps at full load don't break 55-60*C you can give it 1.500v for extended periods of time (as in years). Your temps sound fine so 1.500v should be just fine.

I was only able to get to 3.2 stable with 1.475vcore but anything higher and I would've had to jack the voltage way up. I could run my 5000be at 3.1 on stock volts though. Either way that's still a pretty good OC from 2.6. Not everybody will be lucky enough to get a chip that hit's 3.3-3.4.

the max i've been able to hit so far, is 3.0 @ 15x200, but my mobo is limited in its bios for multiplier and core voltage, i can't change the core voltage and my multiplier doesn't go above 15, getting a new board, hope that helps.

make sure ur motherboard doesn't have fake options like mine,
i didn't know that vcore voltage setting is fake in my bios til just a little while ago, which 3Ghz is my limit,
and then I pinmod it to 1.55v and reached 3321Mhz which is pretty cool
but cpu ran too hot so I took the mod out, hoping to upgrade mobo soon
