No... he's pointing out that nitteo's comment that the IFX-14 is 2xTRUEs put together is false... he's saying it's more comparible to 2xTRUs put together due to the heatpipes.... however, I'm fairly sure that the only difference between the TRU and TRUE are # of heatpipes.... dimension wise I believe they're the same

Also, I'm still curious as to why people prefer the TRUE over the IFX-14 when most reviews put the IFX-14's cooling capabilities above the TRUE... even if it IS only a few Cs difference

Well, there are a couple of reasons. Firstly, the IFX is more expensive. Secondly, it's a huge pain in the rear to install. Thirdly, good luck getting some fan clips for it, they're so rare...

If you'd be willing to pay for it, the hassle of installing it and getting fan clips, more power to you. Most people try to stay away from it.

Yeah, that more on point

the IFX 14 costs a buttload moar, a lot more painful to install, and takes more space, but does have a bad ass fin look

the TRUE is a bit smaller, its only a few*C, and its quite a ways cheaper, and you dont loose much skin installing it

regarding the previous post, I meant the TRUE was better than TRU, and yeah the TRU is a better comparison to the IFX14 due to heatpipe count - which IMO makes a difference on larger heat sources (quads)

The price difference between the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and TRUE is $40 vs $60+fan(s)

Comparatively, the price difference between the TRUE and IFX-14 is $60+fan(s) vs $70+fan(s)

The price difference of the TRUE and Xigmatek is actually greater than that of the TRUE and IFX-14... and there is only difference of a few*C in both cases.... why then, don't people apply the same logic and go with the Xigmatek?

Also, the TRUE's fin density causes it to require a high CFM (and equally high dBA) fan to beat out $35-40 coolers

As for installation, why do so many people complain about this? It's a one time job and the majority of that time is simply uninstalling the motherboard (which has to be done with almost any decent cooler)...

Oh boy...Well it seems to me very simple:

IFX-14 - More expensive. Bigger so may inhibit case airflow. Supposedly a pain to install. Less heatpipes but more surface area. Can use low CFM fan due to less dense fin structure, thus less noise.

TRUE: - Cheaper. Smaller. Easier to install. More heatpipes, smaller surface area. Needs high CFM fan to function well, thus louder.

Make your decision based on that...It seems with the max amount of fans at the most CFM, the TRUE will beat out the IFX-14. With slow quite fans, the IFX-14 wins. Simple.

Really depends:

IFX-14 and the "TRUE" 120 are wayyy Different

Now the IFX-14 vs. TRU 120 is a better comparison

People forget that the Thermalright Ultra 120's have two versions: Extreme and regular.

the IFX-14 would beat a Thermalright Ultra 120 because it is essentially two Thermalright Ultra 120's on the same heatpipes - allowing faster/greater heat dissipation and a bigger heat capacity due to more weight/ absorption from more metal in general.

Now if you compare the IFX-14 to a Thermalright Ultra 120 EXTREME. they are very different because the Ultra 120 Extreme has more heatpipes than the IFX-14. Not to mention is quite a ways thicker than the non-extreme Ultra 120.

Now if you really want to compare an IFX-14 to a TRUE120, I would favor the TRUE120

However, if it was a TRU120 vs. the IFX-14, the IFX-14 wins (due to above stated facts)

Alot of people miss these points, an IFX-14 is NOT two TRUE's put together.
I think he explains it very clearly!

why even upgrade? you have a Tuniq, none of those are much better...unless its for a second rig...

I'm building a secondary rig (E2xxx or E4xxx) and plan on transferring the Tuniq over to that... The Tuniq also has issues pushing my Q6600 with the higher voltages

Don't forget that the backplate for the IFX-14 shaves off some degrees, and you could always get the IFX-10 for the TRUE for like 20$

Because the Xigmatek cooler has exposed heatpipes which takes lapping out of the question. Plus, I think a lot of people are just stubborn and want to believe the TRUE is the best thing on earth. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if some people just like the name "TRUE".

I myself actually decided to go with the Scythe Infinity (currently on a UPS truck somewhere between here and California). It's very quiet for the cooling performance it gives.
