Sometimes ram dies, it happens. If memtest fails right away you may be able to find the bad stick really quick, just run each stick for like a minute and hopefully the bad 1 will still fail right away. If so it should take all of 5 minutes. Otherwise, yeah, it may be a pain. I know I have had nothing but system lockups for the last month. Been putting off figuring it out. Swapped the sata cable for my HDD, haven't locked up since, so hopefully I got it *crosses fingers*

Good luck

After making sure all connections are good etc.

I would:

1) unplug the PSU

2) unplug all hdd

3) remove all sound cards, PCI cards etc.

4) remove all RAM

5) reset CMOS

6) Install one stick of RAM

7) plug in PSU

8) see if mobo will POST

If it does, run memtest on that stick (remember to use a bootable version)
If it doesn't, try another stick (still only one at a time)
If it still doesn't (after you tried all the sticks) try them one at a time in a different RAM slot
If it still doesn't, you may have a bad PSU or mobo.

If it does and the stick passes, try each other stick to see if you can determine if you have a bad stick(s). Once you get it to POST and have successfully tested your RAM, shut down and plug in hdds and reboot.

edit: Diagnosing a PC is very much a trial and error thing. the key is to try things in a certain order so as to elimintae each component one at a time. By unhooking everything else, you are basically testing the RAM, mobo, CPU, GFX card. This helps eliminate the hdds, periferals, OS etc.

edit2: Also, I am assuming you have a speaker hooked up (or onboard) and it isn't beeping at all? If you have tried the above and it won't post with just CPU, PSU, mobo and GFX card, I don't know of anything else to get it to POST.

Did you ever run memtest? You may also have a memory controller issue running 4 sticks. Could need a tad mroe voltage. If you keep RMAing RAM, I would definitely run memtest to be sure it is the RAM that is bad and not the board.

i cant get into windows to make a memtest disk. Things were fine before, and now that i am trying to boot with one stick...it does not do anything, just blue screen and restart every time. and thats with each stick.

Weird. I wouldn't think all 4 sticks are bad at once. Have you tried other slots? Also, could you make a disc or a bootable floppy with whatever PC you are posting this on? Do you have another PC you can try the RAM in or try the other PCs RAM in your main rig?
