Do you realistically see yourself buying 2 more of these before a newer card comes out that is cheaper and faster than all 3 of them?

9800GTX is also CHEAPER than an 8800GTX.

Cheapest 8800GTX, $330 (AFTER rebate):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150232

One of the cheapest 9800GTX's ($300 BEFORE rebate, $270 after rebate):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814186035

There's no reason to get an 8800GTX. Who cares if it's just rebranded? What if they just didn't release ANYTHING while they are developing the technology for their newer cards which will be a bigger performance increase? They're doing it now anyways, and they give you a card that's still better, AND cheaper, and you complain. Jeez, you guys can't be pleased.

Yeah that's sorta the bad part of SLI...
Now if they somehow made it so that you could SLI different cards, that would be nice.
And we weren't talking about the 8800GTX, we were talking about the 8800GTS (G92), which right now, after MIR, is 190.

Wrong, the 88GTX is $310 after rebates.

Its also more expensive than the 8800GTS 512...which is almost the same exact card. Only the 9800 has more v and a slightly better cooler.

Bleeding edge fanatics.

Just reminded me of my DSP professor talking about applications of the course today. He mentioned someone who works with MRI's and the desire to, in real time, make an image of the working heart. Then he said this researcher would be great to work with if we wanted to because she's works at the bleeding edge of the field.

Pun not intended, but the class laughed. (I doubt half of them even realized bleeding edge was a real term).

Eh, most people simply just get the newest thing that's at an affordable/reasonable price for them without doing any research on the product. (Like me a few years back)

Not at all but the option is there and the 9800gtx can do it. My initial plan was to just sli them until I found something they couldn't handle then go 3-way if I had to. The 8800gts couldn't do it and GTX was only a little more. I I was building a new rig today I would go 8800gts since they are $90 cheaper now after MIR but at the time I built this rig it was only like $30 more so i figured why not.
