64 bit not installing?

ok, so i have windows vista ultimate 64 bit running just fine, been like that for several months now...however, when i decided to finally leave sabayon for the new ubuntu, i am not able to load past the loading screen for ubuntu....im trying to install the 64 bit version but sadly its not working, i was able to install the 64 bit version of sabayonlinux just fine, but not ubuntu...what gives? specs are obv in siggy

Try pressing F6 and typing "acpi=off."

There's also an option, something like "nosplash" or "quietsplash," but I forgot what it was.

You might also like to try safe graphics mode.

im gonna try the F6 thing, because i have indeed tried safe mode and even went out to buy a 2nd vid card (7300GS) because i at first thought it was my video card (880GTS) but it wasnt

Press F6 at the LiveCD boot menu. A line containing the boot parameters should pop up; erase the quiet splash part and hit enter. A bunch of output will be displayed on screen, which should give you a better clue as to what is causing it to hang.

In addition, Hardy Heron also allows you to press F6 twice, and then you'll get a few choices, including "acpi=off" and "noaicp." You just hit enter on them.
