Laments of a Regretful Vista User

Hey all,

I've noticed that when running my PC in Safe Mode, it is *significantly* faster than when I run it normally. So, I've been hoping that you guys could help me figure out what's going on. My computer guy recommended this site

For reference, these are applications I usually have running in the background:
  • Diskeeper
  • uTorrent
  • Spyware Doctor
  • Winpatrol

Who's your computer guy? Is he a member here?

I'm just curious, it's always good to hear when people give this site a positive recommendation.

Umm... safe-mode only has an egg-cup of drivers (et al) installed so it will appear faster. (Surely).
Explain / expand on the issues you are having in a normal boot?
(Slow HDD btw)

Anywhere from games to music software. Internet is no problem, though.

I don't really consider turning off Spyware Doc during gaming, though. Still, what other unnecessary crap would be running in the background while using my computer?

I've heard a lot about HijackThis, too. What is this used for? Would it help?

EDIT:

Let's see...normal boots are just slow, especialy when I have an external drive plugged in. I should change the boot order. And, I guess my HDD is a bit slow, too.

I don't know if my compy doc is a member

But, this is his site

That program slowed down my old computer a good bit. Try disabling it to see if it runs any faster. Don't know anything about Winpatrol so I won't comment.

I'm sorry, I replied to the first one, but when I submitted, there were more posts. So I hit edit, but I accidentally typed my edited comment in the quick reply box. Sorry

Lemme merge the posts.

EDIT: Err, how do you delete your posts?

Sorry to double-post, but...

So, does anyone have any more advice on speeding up my PC? I've tried everything, but little seems to work!
