im in the same position as you. but i have a wii (ish) and i have a blue ray player too.

so i would get the ps3, even though the 360 has some great games and good online. plus they have come down in price alot recently (although the 360 has too).

but you can't ignore the power of the ps3

I bought the 360 elite, it came with wireless controller, wireless adapter, year subscription Plus a month, 120 gig hdd for downloads. 360 you gotta pay for xbox live I think ps3 is free right?

I just bought guitar hero III for 50 bucks with the guitar, that game is awesome gonna get guitar hero 4 when it hits shelves.

I played ps3 and some race game in walmart, it has badass graphics.

Lots of demo's to downnload off of xbox live with an account.

Id say get ps3 and 360

Edit: Networking for 360.
Setting up the network for 360 you have two choices.
1. You may use 360 as a media center extender and watch movies through media center "vista ultimate picks up the 360 in less than a sec when 360 comes online".
2.You may setup network sharing through your media player 11 to share to your 360.

Option 1. allows you to play only wma file formats and mp3 does not matter its plays any mp3.
Option 2. Microsoft came out with an update so if you goto play an .AVI format through 360 from your pc, the 360 downloads the update so you may play .avi formats which you cannot play .avi formats on media center just wma format.

so with that, thats that.

Ive got a PS3 and 360 so no biased answer here, but primarily for the fact that most of your friends have an xbox 360, id reccommend you get one aswell, playing online is amazing, but playing with actual friends is another level.

i know! im thinkin about Wii or PS3...since i'm not that excited to play online, since i would'nt play GH3 or RB with them, they dont have it. Only 1 has GH3...-_-....Wii and PS3 has the upperhand... Wii = SSBB, GH3, RB and the fact that you have to move lol and PS3 = graphics, free online and GH3 and RB...

Here's my take on the subject:

I have a Wii, and I think it's insanely fun. I'm a huge fan of a good, long single-player game, and the Wii has a bunch of really good ones (Zelda, Metroid, Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4, et cetera). As online gaming goes, the Wii is not too great. There's not a standardized matchmaking service such as Xbox Live or Playstation Network, and you pretty much have to know someone's friend code in order to play games against them. Anonymous matchmaking in SSBB is a joke (waiting 15 minutes to get connected to three other people around the world, and playing halfway through painfully laggy match before getting disconnected and doing it again). One more note about the Wii - If you're getting a 1080p, keep in mind that the Wii only displays up to 480p - That's a resolution of 720x480 in widescreen mode, or 640x480 in standard aspect. The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 can display in 1080p, or 1920x1080. If this is important to you, you might want to consider one of the high-def consoles. The Wii also does not play any sort of movie formats (including DVD, despite having a DVD drive).

Then, there's the Xbox 360. Better graphics than the Wii, but not as advanced as the PS3. The Xbox has the most games of any system, due to being released a year earlier. Online multiplayer is supposedly good, but you have to pay monthly for an Xbox Live Gold account. The Xbox is the only current-gen system that doesn't utilize a Bluetooth/motion sensitive controller, like both the PS3 and Wii.

The PS3 is the most powerful (and expensive) of the bunch, but with the least games. It seems to be the most versatile in terms of what you can do with it (besides playing games), so if that's your cup of tea, by all means, go for it. The hard drive is easily upgradeable with any 2.5" SATA drive, and the online play is free.

I'm perfectly happy right now with my Wii, but I will probably eventually get a Playstation 3 as well. Right now however, the PS3 cannot justify its price in my eyes. I play games to have fun, and high-definition is a low priority for me, so the Wii is a perfect fit.

Edit: One more thing to point out - If downloadable content sounds appealing to you, keep in mind what the storage capacities are for each console:

Wii - 512MB flash memory (fixed, with an SD card slot)
Xbox 360 - 20-120GB hard drive (proprietary, expensive)
Playstation 3 - 40-???GB hard drive (upgradeable with any off-the-shelf hard drive, cheap). I believe that the higher-end models of the PS3 also have memory card readers.

but if i had the choice again i would get a ps3, i dont play the wii much unless friends come round, i should probobly get some games for it...but im saving up for a ps3

I would go with either the Wii or Ps3, as it sounds like you aren't a "hardcore" console gamer.

The Wii is cheaper, and if you just want Guitar hero and a few games that you will play once a month, it's less of an impact on the wallet. If you are buying a HDTV I would suggest against the Wii, as standard def sucks .

The PS3 will let you do other things besides play the games, like playing bluray movies while friends are over and such. If you get a 1080p TV, you (and your friends) will really appreciate the quality of bluray over DVD. Also the online is free so you can just hop on and play when you're bored. It's sounding like an xbox live subscription would probably not be worth the money for you.
