New DVD-RW.. Can't detect blank CD-R.

Ok, as title, I've googled it, I searched here, I've browsed here...

I bought a Pioneer DVR-115D to replace my piece of junk Lite-On DVD-RW that never worked. It's been reading great, much better than the old drive... But.

Today I 'got' a .iso that I really want to burn and use a.s.a.p. so I stuck a blank CD in, the drive spun it up... Nothing. It just keeps on spinning the disc.

I have used ISORecorder to write an image to disc once in the past, and so that's what I'm trying to use now... But in the wizard it says

D: No Media

No Media Present

Winamp can't pick up the blank CD, My Computer can't find it either...

I found a couple of articles through Google, one that instructed me to activate the IMAPI service through Control Panel (done), another one to check that recording is enabled and set up correctly on the drive and another one to do with a value in the registry, which is now correct.

One thing that does worry me, is that I found out about CD+R, which is supposedly different to and incompatible with CD-R. The disks that I am using are old and I think CD-R... Although they are totally blank white CD's.

I just want to get this CD written so I can go play some old-school games.

Cheers.

[Edit]I think actually, Windows Explorer may have found it, but in properties it reports 0 bytes used/0 bytes free.

Oh and yes I've tried several discs.

Yea, if your drive doesn't support CD-R, it won't work. If it's new, it should work though.

Check the specs on the drive maybe? Stupid, but did you restart after you edited the settings?

Just checked specs for both drives (old/new), both support CD-R as opposed to the CD+R that I've never heard of.

I did restart too.

Ok just started 'puter up with my old drive plugged in...

It reads the disc straight up, 0 Mb Used 702 Mb Free.

Does that mean I've more or less got a knackered drive?

I'll have to take a peek at updates and the likes first, but I should hope I'll be able to burn this image for now anyway.

Thanks.
