It's DX 10.1 that runs Assassin's Creed faster than 9c.

And it is way too much hassle changing from DX10 to DX9 on Vista Thanks for the offer though

And i too know were you are coming from.

I payed £180 for Home Premium and about £170 for my 2900XT a year ago

Its not really a hassle going to DX9 in Crysis. Open the properties for you shortcut and add -dx9 to the end of it in your target field. Here's an example...

"C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\Crytek\\Crysis\\Bin32\\Crysis.exe" -dx9

Ughh..Assasins creed was only DX10 to try and help people with low end dx10 cards play I believe. It was never suposed to give better graphics.
Wait til the new stalker, or try crysis.
Oh, and go look for some of the old DX10 demos.

Sadly, you're right. I am really, really hoping STALKER: Clear Sky will change all that!

I say we wait till Monday to see what DX10 can really do. We have yet to play a single game that is built on DX10.

(For all those clueless: 3DMark Vantage comes out on Monday.)

Man do I feel stupid! What a crock! And to be fair I was one of those people still defending DX10 when it first came out and people starting bashing it. I said, give it time, developers need time to work out the kinks. Well I just picked up a copy of Assassin's Creed, which is available in DX9 and DX10, and that game was the last nail in the coffen for DX10 as far as I'm concerned. Like most other games, the DX9 version runs much better and looks exactly the same. There is still so much that can be done with DX9, I mean look at Crysis for God sake. When you enable Very High settings in Crysis in DX9 mode, WOW! It looks just as good as DX10. So what makes DX10 so great? Answer, Nothing. Its just another disaster in a long line of distasters brought to you by your good friends in Redmond, Washington.

...and thats what really grinds my gears.
I disagree with this. I think that the current games that use DX10 look better than DX9. My FPS go down is DX10 but the games still play as smooth as DX9 with it higher frames. But I do respect your opinion, sorry you haven't enjoyed DX10 as much as I have.

That's cool, I'm glad its been working for you. Its is a little easier to enjoy it with 2 gfx cards.

I was also waiting to be swayed by DX10, but there is one huge huge problem with it. Even if the devs do build the game around DX10 they still have to make it backwards compatible because people would have a fit otherwise. Until they make a DX that is exclusive and the devs completely 100% switch to that rather than doing backwards compatibility, we're not going to get the satisfaction we're hoping for from future DX's.
