Evga 780i, overclocking E8400, which cooler to get? - Page 2

I have both the Ultra 120 Extreme (stop calling it a "TRUE", makes it sound funny...) and a high powered Panaflo fan. The heatsink doesn't come with a fan, so you - the end user - can choose whether you want a silent system (low speed or even no fan), or a high noise high powered fan, and anything in between.

It is very easy to attach a fan to the heatsink, as the heatsink provides a pair of fan clips. Panaflo fans are "open eared", meaning there's no post in the corners where the screws go. I'll illustrate this with a closeup of the heatsink/fan installation:

You can get the fan and heatsink here, just select one of the Panaflo's from the drop down list.

I'll get the HDT-S1283 cooler instead. (Only 1-2C higher + comes w/ fan + cheaper + weights less + smaller)

Or yours?

To be really honest, with an e8400, you only really need a freezer 7 pro. Though its really quite noisy and irritating at high speed. Anything more is just e-peen, the 45nm cores run pretty cool and voltage rather than heat is the enemy. You may also want to conside scythe mine or scythe ninja - they look great and cool well.

I'll just make the HDT-S1283 final. Thanks everyone!

I'm will like to overclock my CPU to about 4Ghz can i use EVGA 780i guide?

It's pretty much the same concept, so yeah you can use the same guide. Just dont freak out when it says: Go into the EVGA bios and- OMG MINE ISNT EVGA!!!! lol

Hey Adrienspawn,

I noticed that you have the eVga 780i and using TRUE? I was wondering how did you mount it? north-south or east-west in terms of the fan? I have everything ready for my evga780i when it arrives and i've attached 2 antec tricool (push and pull) on the TRUE, i was wondering if it will interfere with the fan that came with the board?

Thanks.
