For the OP, I agree with other's 9600GT SLi suggestions.
Yeah the 9600GT SLI would be best if he did in fact have a SLI board but sadly he doesn't.

I'm not saying that because I have a ATi card and if you want to accuse me of being a fanboy then yes I will spend my money on ATi before even looking at what nVidia has to offer because I love them but since this isn't concerning me I put my fanboyism aside and the only time I recommended a ATi card was in my first post but I edited it after realizing the price compared to the money he had. Also I never said the RV670 would beat the G92. I'm just going by the most cost effective card and what he can use in his system.

Edit: And to tell you the truth, this 200M I have can't play crap. When I say CAN'T I mean it, Far Cry on all low at 1024*768 can't be played but I use this laptop for web surfing because I don't have a Gaming PC ATM.

Please don't start a debate please. And I didn't say that ATi was more cost effective then nVidia but I'm talking about the best performing card for udner $300 which is the 8800GTS 512MB, it outperforms the 3870, 9600GT, 8800GT, and if I remember correctly he wanted the best for under $300 but at the same time the most cost effective. 8800GTS 512MB performs closely and can outperform a 9800GTX yet it cost less and as previously said it beats all the lower competition. So why are you trying to compare a $160 card to something that cost $300? Just leave the topic alone

If you have 300 to spend just get the GTX in my opinion. You wont be let down. Mine is overclocking like mad. 16k 3DMark06 with a single card and a dual core is pretty decent. If I had my old Q6600 I would be able to pull 17k+ pretty easy.

You don't feel any regret buying the card even when you know you could have saved ~$130 for a card that can outperform a 9800GTX and in most cases on par?

First off, I'm not finding any 8800GTS 512mb cards that are 130 dollar cheaper than my GTX. I am assuming this would be the card you are speaking of. I wouldn't buy anything other than XFX or EVGA as far as video cards go. The cheapest GTS on newegg from EVGA is 239.99 compared to the 299.99 for the GTX I bought.

Second, show me a GTS hitting the clock speeds on core/shader/mem that mine is pulling on air please. I'm not seeing how me swapping out a GTS for my GTX would in any case show me better performance as you state above.

Edit: Corrected a bunch of grammar. One of those days
