Well if you are thinking twice about it. Don't try it, but as long as the bottom of the cpu is covered it shouldn't harm it.

The 45nm CPUs are only running on 1.36v vcore, so they arent generating enough heat to really worry about lapping the IHS. I wouldnt do it. Nobody really knows what kind of long term effect higher vcore has on the 45nm yet, so it might be worth it to hold off, at least for now.

Yea, you're totally right. I'll just lap the aftermarket heatsink and we're good to go.

If was dead set on lapping it I would just go ahead and do it. Sure the warranty's toast but CPU RMAs are much, much more rare than with other computer hardware anyway.
