amen, thats what backup drives are for. I've had some serious issues like this in the past when installing various things from an external ide drive that way apparently dying.

All-in-all a fresh reformat every couple of months keeps me feeling like al is good, and also keeps me from feeling that I have to buy new hardware to keep things super zippy.

I ran memtest, and all is good. So far, it looks like Magic Tune Premium was the culprit. I'm going to reformat later on today for further investigation.

I have a feeling that this isn't over yet.
