What AMD CPU to go with Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H board? - Page 2

4850e - 45W for 2cores @2.5GHz. You don't need better for HTPC. You may even get a 4000+ and downclock it @1000MHz with around 1Vcore for minimal power consumption.

Just for reference.... For 1080p Blu-Ray, all you need is at least a 1.5GHz X2. That's it. Therefore, there is no need to overclock any X2... more like, you can downclock to conserve power.

The 6400+ BE has a 125w TDP... this motherboard only supports up to 95w TDP CPUs.
Once again...

Like duckie said, avoid the 6000, 6400 or phenom higher than 9650 as they aren't supported by the mobo (even tho the builder's web pages say they are). The power circuits on the mobo can't power a 125W CPU, much less to OC it.

The gigabyte manual recommends a 4200+ or better for blu ray though.

Yeah, I went with a Phenom 9550 @ 2.2Ghz as it's only 95w .

Thread Starter
With lots of information regarding the AMD CPU for this board. I decided to purchase 65W X2 5000+ CPU

I think I am gonna use Cool and Quiet function which will downclock it during idle.

If you leave your system on 24/7, you can just manually set your CPU voltage to 1.0v and check if CPU is stable. (CNQ does just that). I found mine to be stable at like .93v
